Nourishing Hope, formerly known as Lakeview Pantry, is a dynamic Chicago nonprofit providing food and social services for anyone in need. Founded in 1970, we’re one of the largest and longest operating hunger relief organizations in Chicago. We also provide free, trauma-informed mental health counseling and other social services, such as job and housing assistance. We strive to serve the needs of the whole person — with respect and dignity, always.
Nourishing Hope offers our neighbors nutritious food using a choice-based distribution model and access to life-changing social services including:
Monthly food distribution and additional produce pickup through five different food access programs;
Home delivery services for older adults, homebound neighbors and neighbors living with disabilities;
Social services including case management, mental health counseling, job search support, domestic violence intervention, referrals and public benefits assistance (SNAP, healthcare, government forms) for anyone in need.
Nourishing Hope serves tens of thousands of people each year, providing more than 4 million meals through our programs, in addition to partnerships with other community organizations. This year, Nourishing Hope will provide about 200,000 food and social services to our Chicago neighbors.
Position Summary
The Home Delivery Program serves 1,000+ people with home-delivered food every month. The Home Delivery Program Coordinator oversees and ensures a fair and organized system for food distribution. They also supervise all aspects of procurement, storage and distribution of goods.
Schedule and Locations
This position primarily works out of Nourishing Hope headquarters at 1716 W. Hubbard Street in Chicago. The work schedule is Tuesdays & Fridays from 9:30AM-5:30PM, Wednesdays & Saturdays from 8:00AM-4:00PM, and Thursdays remote work.
Essential Job Functions
Independently train and supervise program volunteers through shifts involved in prep, packing, and distribution of home deliveries, including on-site within neighboring senior buildings.
Assist the Senior Manager of Home Delivery in growth and expansion, as well as improving efficiency of the program.
Engage in phone outreach with clients for screening, program overview, enrollment, and scheduling. Use phone interpretation services to engage with clients using other languages.
Act as an ambassador of Nourishing Hope to the larger community, helping the Manager of Home Delivery to develop and further foster relationships with community partners.
Collect, store, and distribute food according to Pantry, state, and federal guidelines.
Manage inventory and develop healthy menus for deliveries.
Maintain Pantry site sanitation that meets or exceeds government and monitoring agencies’ standards.
Create and track benchmarks of the program’s success, and make recommendations for improvement.
Support our different pantry programs at other Nourishing Hope locations.
Qualifications
High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
1 - 2 years work experience in customer service, social services or grocery.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and access to a car.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Creative and motivated self-starter.
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to handle volatile situations calmly, professionally and respectfully.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays.
An understanding of and belief in, the importance of food security for everyone.
Highly Preferred
Experience in community nutrition, public health, or a non-profit
Experience working with diverse aging population
Bilingual (Spanish or Mandarin)
Pay and Benefits
Hourly rate: $20.20-$21.00 per hour
