Work Location: Japan Remote 
Engagement Model:  Part-time (20 hours per week) or full-time employment 

Engagement Duration: 3 months with possibility of extension  

In-Country Cultural & Linguistic Expert 

We are looking for native speakers and cultural experts to support Generative AI projects. As an In-Country Cultural & Linguistic Expert, you will use your knowledge of language, culture, and society to help train, evaluate, and improve AI models. Your work will ensure that AI systems respond in ways that are culturally accurate, appropriate, and respectful. 

Main Responsibilities: 

• Generate Training Sets: Create and review texts that reflect authentic local language and culture, including idioms, proverbs, and everyday conversations. 

• Create Evaluation Sets: Design prompts to test AI on cultural nuance, humor, sensitive topics, and taboos. 

• Benchmark AI Responses: Evaluate AI outputs for cultural appropriateness, tone, accuracy, and potential bias. 

• Framework Development: Help define what “cultural awareness” means and support the creation of guidelines. 

• Data Vetting & Enrichment: Review datasets to ensure they reflect diverse cultural contexts and perspectives. 

• Bias Analysis: Identify and categorize cultural and social biases, providing insights to reduce them in AI models. 

Requirements: 

• Idiomatic Proficiency in Japanese Languages with deep knowledge of the Japanese Culture. 

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Sociolinguistics, Anthropology, Sociology, History, Cultural Studies, or related field. 

• Strong understanding of local customs, traditions, social dynamics, and current events. 

• Professional background in writing, journalism, education, community leadership, or similar fields involving cultural expertise. 

• Knowledge of cultural diversity across demographics (age, gender, region, urban vs. rural, socioeconomic groups). 

• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
