Job Description - Key Account Representative-Food Service and Retail
We are looking for a customer-obsessed, proactive, and execution-driven Key Account Representative to support the rapid growth of Better Balance and Los Altos Foods across the West Coast.
This role will be a critical partner in ensuring exceptional service, flawless execution, strong trade show activation, and continuous sales growth. You will work closely with distributors, operators, and internal teams to help us achieve our ambitious 2026 goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Customer Support & Account Management
Manage and nurture existing customer and distributor relationships
Ensure consistent product flow, inventory accuracy, and high service levels
Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues promptly
Build strong relationships with key contacts across assigned accounts
New Sales Opportunities (Market Mapping & Lead Development)
Identify growth opportunities within existing accounts and new leads
Engage, develop, and close new business opportunities
Support achievement of regional profit and sales targets
Track leads and pipeline progression through CRM, ensuring timely follow-ups
Document objections, pricing feedback, and opportunities for internal alignment
Trade Shows, Distributor Shows & Customer Cutting
Conduct product demonstrations, menu cuttings, staff training, and sampling events
Participate in customer events, distributor shows, trade shows, and market visits
Support broker teams with sales tools, samples, and product materials
Gather operator feedback and competitive insights to inform strategy
Ensure flawless execution during all field activities
Retail Support & Execution
Conduct periodic store visits to check product freshness, placement, and merchandising
Support in-store demos, sampling programs, and promotional activities
Provide proactive customer service to maintain strong retail partnerships
Share insights on new product tests and retail opportunities
Reporting & Analytics
Produce clear monthly KPI reports and activity summaries
Track promo lift, distributor performance, and operator conversion results
Prepare concise decks for business reviews, internal updates, and customer meetings
Provide timely and actionable feedback on customer opportunities, market trends, and competitive movement
Help organize learnings and identify areas for improvement
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
2–5 years of account management experience in Consumer-Packaged Goods or the Food Industry
Experience working with Sysco, US Foods, PFG, or similar distributors (strong plus)
Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
Highly organized, with strong follow-up discipline and attention to detail
Ability to travel throughout the West Coast as needed
Comfortable conducting demos, menu cuttings, trainings, and field work
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred — professional proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking
Proficiency in CRM tools and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to track, interpret, and improve key performance indicators (KPIs)
Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal and customer service capabilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors in Business, Management or related field
Experience supporting or executing trade shows, distributor shows, or customer events
Background in high-growth food categories
Experience conducting field sales, operator trainings, or culinary presentations
Knowledge of regional foodservice landscape across the West Coast.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand for extended periods during demos, cuttings, and trade shows
Ability to lift and carry up to 25–30 lbs (samples, coolers, marketing materials)
Ability to travel frequently, including driving to customer and distributor locations

Able to travel up to 40% of the time, including overnight stays.
