The Long-Term Substitute Teacher provides full-time virtual instructional coverage for California Online Public Schools when teachers are on leave. Working from a home office, this role supports students across all grade bands by delivering live lessons, monitoring progress, maintaining communication with families, and ensuring continuity of instruction. Assignments typically will be a minimum of one (1) month up to five (5) months. During the duration of an assignment the substitute teacher will be expected to work full-time (40 hours a week).
Substitute teachers work under the guidance of instructional leadership and collaborate closely with school teams to uphold high academic expectations and student success.

The candidate possesses extensive experience delivering virtual lessons across multiple subject areas, demonstrating excellent communication skills that facilitate effective interactions with staff, students, and caretakers. Proficient in various virtual learning platforms, including Zoom, Google Workspace, Canvas, and School Pathways, they adeptly utilize technology to enhance instructional delivery and foster student engagement. Their background includes working with diverse student populations, allowing for a deep understanding of unique educational needs. The candidate excels at managing multiple responsibilities and adapting to changing instructional demands, while maintaining strong organizational skills to ensure compliance with school procedures and guidelines.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primarily performed from a home office with reliable high-speed internet and a quiet space suitable for student video sessions. Occasional in-person attendance required for the annual Back to School Conference and other events. Extended sitting and keyboard/mouse use up to 8 hours daily; hearing, speaking, and visual acuity to engage students virtually. At in-person events: standing/walking, occasional lifting up to 20 lbs (up to 40 lbs on rare occasions), pushing/pulling not exceeding 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations available.
