Job Description - Manufacturing Estimator

General Description


OMW Corporation is a world leading supplier of custom manufactured mechanical parts and assemblies. We work for some of the world’s most exciting companies in aerospace, commercial launch, electronics, semiconductors, and medical industries. We're located in Novato, California in northern Marin County, just north of San Francisco and southwest of the beautiful Napa Valley. 


 


Job Description


The Manufacturing Estimator will create quotes for machined parts and assemblies for OMW’s customers. This is primarily an on-site position with frequent interaction with production and engineering staff. Work-from-home can be accommodated in a hybrid configuration is possible.


 


OMW’s Manufacturing Estimator prepares accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for machined parts produced on 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machines, and CNC lathes. The role is focused on analyzing customer RFQs, interpreting technical drawings and models, and developing detailed manufacturing strategies and cost breakdowns. The Manufacturing Estimator collaborates closely with a teammate who manages the RFQ process and collects quotes from raw materials, outside processing, and other non-machining costs.


 


The Manufacturing Estimator needs excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Manufacturing Estimator must be a proactive communicator who enjoys being hands-on. They must fully understand safety and regulatory requirements and have a sense of responsibility towards the company. The role requires adaptability, flexibility, and an agile mindset to manage competing priorities, support a broad range of work environments, and keep up with the fast pace of our team as we pursue meeting our customers’ needs. Their goal is to support OMW’s mission of delivering good products on time all while continuing to improve. The Manufacturing Estimator plays a key role in supporting the sustainable growth and scalability of the organization.


 


Job Responsibilities:



  • Analyze RFQs, CAD models, and technical drawings to determine machining requirements, tolerances, and part complexity.

  • Develop cost estimates for CNC machined parts, including setup time, cycle time, material size, tooling, and labor.

  • Select appropriate machines, tools, and workholding strategies based on material and geometry.

  • Determine optimal manufacturing methods and sequences, factoring in efficiency and quality.

  • Collaborate with teammates responsible for quoting materials, outside processing, and specialty services.

  • Use estimating software and ERP tools to generate formal quote documents and maintain accurate records.

  • Recommend alternate design or manufacturing approaches to improve cost or manufacturability when appropriate.

  • Coordinate with engineering, programming, and production teams to validate assumptions and support process planning.

  • Participate in continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and workflows.

  • Additional duties as assigned


Job Requirements:



  • 5+ years of experience in estimating or programming CNC machined parts; experience with both 3-axis and 5-axis machining required.

  • Strong understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, and materials (e.g., aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, etc.).

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.

  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM systems (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam, NX) required.

  • Experience with ERP and quoting systems required (e.g., Paperless Parts).

  • Excellent math, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines.

  • Background in precision aerospace or defense machining environments.

  • Understanding of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems a plus.

  • Exposure to cost reduction strategies and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices.



Education & Experience:



  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
