Job Description - Nursing Board Compliance Agent

The Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) regulates more than 300,000 licenses and certificates.  OBN licenses and regulates Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Advanced Practice Nurses (APRNs), Dialysis Technicians (DTs), Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Medication Aides (MA-Cs).  OBN's top priorities are to efficiently license the nursing workforce and remove unsafe practitioners from practice in a timely manner to protect Ohio patients.  Public protection is critical, as nursing touches virtually every citizen of Ohio.

Requires current licensure as registered nurse in State of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Sections 4723.03 & 4723.09 Ohio Revised Code; completion of undergraduate core program in nursing; 3 yrs. exp. as registered nurse; must provide own transportation. 

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. 

Job Skills: Board and Commission Compliance


While offering fully remote employment, this position will service investigations and activity primarily for Ohio's counties located in the Central part of the State.  This may include Champaign county up to Marion county and Coshocton county to Ross county and everything in between.  Therefore, selected applicant should be maintaining personal residence in this area of the State of Ohio in order to provide maximum performance and minimize hours traveling. 

Receives and processes complaints rendered against licensees; conducts assigned investigations of alleged violations of the law regulating the practice of nursing for administrative and/or legal action (i.e. examines documents, interviews appropriate persons to establish the facts, etc.); prepares reports for and reviews findings with supervisor; maintains accurate records. Contributes to process by using nursing knowledge and judgment.

Participates in formal and informal conferences; assists with preparation of materials and documentation required for presentation at administrative hearings and/or to court systems of alleged violations of the law regulating the practice of nursing (i.e. coordinates evidence, obtains witnesses, prepares legal documents, etc.); testifies before regulatory agencies and/or court systems.

Interprets the law regulating the practice of nursing and board rules and policies as they relate to compliance, to the health care community, licensees, nursing education programs and the public; responds to inquiries.

Acts as liaison with federal, state, county and municipal law enforcement officers and with other regulatory agencies; performs other duties as assigned.
