Policy Associate - West

Position Description

Advanced Energy United is currently seeking a candidate with strong interpersonal and communication skills and excellent analytical and writing skills with interest and/or experience in policy advocacy for an entry-level Associate position. The Associate will work with other Advanced Energy United team members to accelerate the U.S.’s transition to 100% clean energy and clean transportation. This work will involve supporting a variety of priority initiatives across the organization but with focus on West Region states (AZ, CA, CO, NV, and NM). This includes educating decision-makers about advanced energy, helping other advocates understand policy levers, and facilitating advanced energy member company engagement with decision-makers. The Associate will also help Advanced Energy United track legislative and regulatory policy developments around the country using our software platform Insight Engine, providing up-to-date policy intelligence to subscribers.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with an interest in policy, politics, and clean energy, and will have a balanced skill set that includes both comfort with quantitative analysis and strong communications skills. Candidates should be creative and flexible, with the ability to move between projects as needed to support Advanced Energy United’s work in a wide variety of areas. Candidates will need to have the ability to travel to meet with Advanced Energy United members and decision makers.

Responsibilities 

• Contribute to Advanced Energy United project teams in executing priority projects to accelerate achievement of 100% clean energy and electrified transportation

• A key focus of this work will be educating decision makers on how advanced energy technologies facilitate this transition and on aligning the utility business model with 100% clean energy and electric transportation

• Support state policy leads across the West Region with both virtual and in-person meetings with members, partners, and decision-makers, as well as virtual and in-person convenings

• Assist in the creation of presentations, fact sheets, and other written and visual materials, and deliver verbal presentations as requested

• Track, analyze, and summarize legislative and regulatory policy developments around the country, providing intelligence and insights using Advanced Energy United’s Insight Engine^TM platform

• Contribute writing for the Insight Engine platform

• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with Advanced Energy United staff, members, and partners, as well as key legislative, regulatory, and administrative staff

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

• Experience with the advanced energy industry is a plus

• Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit; candidates must be very comfortable working in an environment with remote colleagues, creating new projects, building their own calendar, and delivering on high expectations

• Strong interpersonal skills required; candidates must be able to successfully develop and maintain productive relationships with members, industry stakeholders, policymakers, and other key contacts

• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, required- inclusive of public speaking. A candidate must be able to independently draft clear, comprehensive, and persuasive written documents appropriate for intended audiences

• Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills

• Experience in advancing a policy agenda and/or working with business leaders is a plus

• Must be friendly, have a sense of humor, recognize there is always more to learn, and not take oneself too seriously

• Must be willing to travel as needed

Location: Remote. Must reside in the Western U.S., with preference for residence in an Advanced Energy United priority state (AZ, CA, CO, NV, or NM)

Salary: starting at $64,000

Start Date: July/August 2025
