Principal Consultant - Safety Management System

At ENTRUST Solutions Group, our Safety Management System (SMS) team is passionate about helping clients create safer, more reliable operations. We work with organizations to design and implement comprehensive safety management systems—or enhance existing pipeline and occupational health and safety programs.

Our team brings deep expertise in Pipeline Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, and Process Safety Management. We guide clients through building SMS programs aligned with industry standards like API RP 1173 (Pipeline Safety Management System), ANSI Z10, and ISO 45001. From gap assessments and implementation roadmaps to auditing, hazard analysis, and incident investigations, we deliver practical solutions that make a real impact. We also understand how administrative, engineering, and operational disciplines work together to keep utilities safe and efficient.

In this role, you’ll take the lead on diverse projects, applying your broad engineering expertise to solve complex challenges. You’ll guide consulting teams, offering technical and organizational direction while collaborating closely with Project Managers and Business Unit Leaders to improve processes. Staying ahead of industry standards and innovations will be key, as you ensure compliance and best practices across the board. You’ll also mentor and train team members on SMS and code compliance, drive quality control and change management systems, and influence positive organizational change. Beyond that, you’ll help identify new business opportunities and work collaboratively across business units to build the best project teams for our clients.

This role is designated as remote, giving you the flexibility to primarily work from home while staying actively connected to your team and projects. We value collaboration and responsiveness, so we ask our remote team members to be available when in-office presence is needed—such as for client meetings, team events, or training sessions. This role may also require occasional travel for fieldwork or site visits depending on the project need.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in scientific, technology, and/or engineering from an accredited university or equivalent technical degree.


• 10+ years of work experience, 5+ years of work experience at a natural gas, liquid pipeline, or electric utility. 8+ years of the work experience must be at a company or engineering consulting firm in a high risk, high reliability organization (nuclear energy, electrical or gas utilities).


• Collaborative approach to problem solving.


• Ability to build relationships with clients and staff members.


• Technical or leadership expertise (expert level) related to one or more disciplines.


• Industry contacts and knowledge of the industry.


• Valid driver's license for required travel.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s level classes (or higher) in business management, including but not limited to business law, accounting and/or business finance.

  Training in Lean, Six Sigma, or other Continuous Improvement Techniques.

  American Society for Quality Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Manager of Quality/ Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), Certified Quality Process Analyst (CQPA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), and/or Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA).
