Principal Privileged Access Management (PAM) Manager & Governance Leader
An established financial services organization is seeking a Principal PAM Manager to strengthen its privileged access strategy, architecture, and governance. This Principal-level role combines technical leadership, cross-functional influence, and hands-on execution. Working with an established team of onshore and offshore professionals, you will help protect critical applications and embed governance, risk management, and automation into everyday operations. You will have organizational support to coordinate resources and drive improvements across business and technology teams.
Work Structure & Location
Location: Open to 100% remote for candidates with specialized PAM expertise.
Technology & Environment
The broader enterprise technology environment includes AWS and Microsoft Azure, alongside investment in automation and enterprise generative AI capabilities. Security teams work within a highly regulated environment where protecting sensitive data, maintaining reliable services, and demonstrating effective controls are central priorities. This role focuses on advancing privileged access capabilities for human and non-human identities while helping teams adopt practical, sustainable security processes.
Core Responsibilities
Privileged Access Strategy & Governance
Enterprise Strategy: Lead the development and execution of PAM strategy for human and non-human identities, including service accounts and machine-to-machine access.
Enterprise Governance: Help define and strengthen the enterprise PAM governance framework, including policies and standards, decision rights, control ownership, exception management, and risk escalation. Partner with business, technology, risk, and compliance stakeholders to establish accountability and report on privileged access risks and control effectiveness.
Architecture & Automation: Guide improvements to privileged access architecture and workflows, including automation, least-privilege controls, and Just-in-Time (JIT) access.
Risk-Informed Controls: Strengthen controls based on privileged access risks, sensitive data exposure, threat actor behaviors, and system vulnerabilities.
Audit Readiness: Lead PAM readiness for upcoming Q4 audits, clearly demonstrate control effectiveness, and coordinate remediation of identified gaps while minimizing operational disruption.
Compliance Alignment: Support applicable SOX requirements and alignment with relevant NIST frameworks and guidance.
Consulting & Leadership
Cross-Functional Partnership: Advise engineering and business teams on practical approaches to meeting security and compliance requirements.
Team Leadership: Provide direction and technical guidance to an established onshore and offshore team, with flexibility to contribute individually and lead team execution as priorities require.
Policy & Training: Translate identity security policies into clear guidance and actionable training for technical and business audiences.
Process Improvement & AI: Evaluate opportunities to use automation, Microsoft Copilot, and approved internal generative AI tools to improve workflows, documentation, and operational effectiveness.
Regulated Industry Experience: Experience working with security architecture and controls in banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
Technical & Governance Depth: Strong understanding of identity and privileged access architecture, paired with the ability to lead governance, risk, and compliance discussions.
Adaptable Leadership: Ability to move between hands-on contributions, strategic guidance, and team leadership as priorities require.
Communication & Influence: Ability to explain complex security issues, build cross-functional agreement, and coordinate the resources needed to execute.
Experience applying privileged access controls in cloud environments, particularly AWS or Microsoft Azure, would be valuable.
Culture & Environment
The organization emphasizes collaboration, individual accountability, and autonomy. This role offers the opportunity to work across business and technology teams, combining the resources of an established financial institution with a focus on modernization and continuous improvement.
