Job Description - Sales & Use Tax Manager


SALES & USE TAX MANAGER (Permanent)
Our client, an international engineering company with a hub in WNY, is looking for a Sales & Use Tax Manager to join their growing team.  This role is new to the office in Buffalo and reports directly to the Director of Indirect Tax Compliance.


Responsibilities:



  • Perform day-to-day tax accounting functions to ensure the company remains within compliance and avoids penalties

  • Remain up to date with current tax laws and regulations across all states, specifically sales & use, to ensure compliance is maintained at all times

  • Set up sales tax exemptions as necessary, ensuring the company is receiving the best possible tax breaks

  • Conduct research into state nexus issues and the taxation of customer sales/vendor purchases; ensure registrations remain up to date

  • Manage & develop a small team of 3 tax professionals, providing guidance and mentorship as needed

  • Oversee the indirect tax filings across all 50 states for a dynamic portfolio that includes rentals/leases, sales, etc.

  • Manage annual tax audits as required, providing detailed & accurate information

  • Act as the liaison between internal and external business partners by providing answers to inquiries regarding tax matters

  • Manage state correspondence efficiently and in a timely manner

  • Collaborate with other departments as needed, such as accounting, treasury, and operations

  • Regularly audit current processes to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes

  • Complete special projects in a timely manner

  • Other duties as assigned/as necessary

 

Details:



  • Position is full time, direct hire

  • Mon-Fri: 45-50 hours per week

  • Hybrid, 3 days in-office, 2 days WFH

  • $95,000 - $115,000 annually depending on experience; annual bonus up to 7.5%

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, pension plan, 3 weeks’ vacation + 7 days PTO + paid holidays

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related

  • 7+ years’ experience in Sales & Use Tax Accounting, preferably in manufacturing/industrial

  • Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office, Excel, Vertex

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Self-motivated

  • Relocation not available 

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States; Visa sponsorship is not available
