Senior Developer - Data Products

About the Role

We are looking for a senior developer to help build and improve Newsmatics’ data-driven products for news discovery, media transparency, and monitoring. You will contribute to existing products, including Perspectify, as well as new products developed by the team.
The role combines hands-on development with solution design, data processing, backend services, APIs, integrations, and production delivery.

What You Will Do

• Develop and improve backend services, APIs, data workflows, and internal tools.


• Turn data, research, and analytical outputs into useful product functionality.


• Contribute to solution architecture, data models, integrations, and technology choices.


• Evaluate available approaches and develop prototypes for new product capabilities.


• Improve the reliability, performance, and maintainability of new and existing solutions.


• Collaborate with data scientists, developers, product and UX colleagues, and external partners.

What We Are Looking For

• Senior-level experience delivering software, data products, or other technical solutions in a production environment.


• Practical experience with backend development, APIs, and data processing using Python or TypeScript.


• Good understanding of relational databases, data modeling, and SQL.


• Experience deploying and maintaining solutions in cloud or Linux environments.


• Sound technical judgment, ownership, and the ability to take a solution from initial design to production.


• The ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in English within an international remote team.


• Experience with machine learning, NLP, LLM integrations, frontend development, data visualization, or DevOps is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  

Environment & Technologies

Our core environment includes Python, TypeScript, SQL, REST APIs, AWS, and Linux. You may also encounter Ruby, MySQL/Aurora, Sphinx (search engine), Redis, Docker, BigQuery.

You do not need experience with every technology listed. We value strong technical foundations and the ability to select and learn the right tools.
