Special Education Teacher - Moderate to Severe

The Moderate/Severe Special Education Teacher has the specific responsibility to plan and implement a learning environment which meets the unique needs of our special education students in an Independent Study virtual setting; will instruct special education students in accordance with established policies and procedures; develop and implement IEP goals, and assess students, assign duties to classified personnel, oversee the classified staff's interaction with students, provide input to the Administration concerning the performance of students assigned to their classroom or program, and perform other duties as required by law.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide quality specialized academic instruction aligned with Common Core standards to meet student’s needs and/or learning styles in a self-contained virtual class setting. 
• Be able to manage your caseload that will also be your homeroom students in a virtual setting. Possess working knowledge of special education law and mandates established by the local and state agencies. 
• Update Individual Education Plan (IEP) as required, goals and objectives; conduct IEP meetings; establish, maintain and work toward student goals as outlined in the IEP.
•  Utilize assessment results from psychological reports, academic reports and other related service provider reports to develop an IEP 
• Meet case management responsibilities as assigned by the various grade band levels 
•  Administer standardized tests; develop curriculum and lesson plans in accordance with state guidelines. 
• Prepare lesson plans, progress reports, report cards and incident reports in a timely manner. Observe and record academic and behavioral student progress daily. 
•  Maintain a positive and professional demeanor, communicate effectively and interface with a multidisciplinary team including parents, caregivers, social services, district personnel and other outside support agencies. 
•  Attend in-service training and all other required meetings 
•  Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor 
• Adhere to all policies and procedures ● Required to travel to in-person events located throughout Northern, Central and Southern California. 
• Ability to create measurable learning objectives and guide students toward mastery. ● Ability to organize time to maximize opportunities for instruction
• Ability to correct student errors in a positive and timely manner 
• Ability to effectively utilize a problem solving approach
• Exhibit behaviors that reflect a positive attitude 
• Ability to provide positive reinforcements to students by using a variety of incentives and rewards, both tangible and social.
•  Required to travel to in-person events located throughout Northern, Central and Southern California. 
• Mandatory travel is required for the Back to School event, August 18–21, 2026

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of federal and California special education laws, regulations, IEP development, compliance requirements, and best practices for serving students with disabilities in a virtual learning environment.
• Knowledge of Common Core State Standards, evidence-based instructional practices, assessment administration and interpretation, and specially designed instruction to support diverse learning needs.
• Skill in case management, including developing and implementing IEPs, maintaining accurate documentation, monitoring student progress, and meeting required timelines.
• Ability to analyze educational, psychological, behavioral, and related service data to develop measurable goals, individualized instructional plans, and appropriate accommodations and modifications.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to effectively partner with students, families, multidisciplinary teams, school districts, and community agencies.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Primarily performed from a home office with reliable high-speed internet and a quiet space suitable for student video sessions. Occasional in-person attendance required for the annual Back to School Conference and other events. Extended sitting and keyboard/mouse use up to 8 hours daily; hearing, speaking, and visual acuity to engage students virtually. At in-person events: standing/walking, occasional lifting up to 20 lbs (up to 40 lbs on rare occasions), pushing/pulling not exceeding 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations available.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must hold a baccalaureate degree (BA/BS) from an accredited school
• Valid California State Credential for Special Education, Moderate to Severe, with appropriate authorization. 
• Possess a CLAD or BCLAD authorization
• Possess Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) Authorization 
• Positive work history demonstrating verifiable reliability, responsibility and good work habits. 
• This is a fully remote position where you will primarily work from your home office. 

Compensation

$83,416.04 - $114,166.09
