Surface Water Practice Lead / Principal Engineer

MNS is hiring a Surface Water Practice Lead / Principal for its California offices. This position has the option of being remote (with the ability to be in an office when necessary), or hybrid (sharing time between one of the nine California offices and home). 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

MNS Engineers is seeking a self-driven, results-oriented Surface Water Principal to build and lead the Surface Water Practice throughout our California offices. Reporting to the Water Business Unit Lead, the Surface Water Principal will be responsible for client engagement, leadership, strategic planning, staff development and business development within the MNS Water Market team. Job duties will include:

• In conjunction with and with the support of company leadership, develop, implement and maintain business plans and staffing plans and meet performance metrics for the Surface Water team to increase market share throughout target CA markets
• In conjunction with the Business Development/Marketing team, reestablish contacts upon joining MNS, build new relationships, and track upcoming opportunities with existing and prospective clients to build a steady and growing pipeline and backlog
• Serve as Project Manager and/or technical leader on Surface Water projects (including drainage design, floodplain management, water quality, modeling, regulatory/permitting, and program management) 
• Supervise and direct staff across technical, management, leadership, and client service skill sets
• Use creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented problems
• Set priorities and reconcile time demands from competing interests
• Recommend equipment, software, personnel, and investments required to carry out the requirements of the Surface Water Principal job description
• Oversee the technical and project financial performance of the MNS Surface Water team, lead quality management of all proposals and work products from Surface Water team members
• Engage with the Surface Water industry as a contributor and leader
• Manage to the Key Performance Indicators within the annual business plan to meet or exceed annual financial goals
• Other duties as assigned

The candidate should also be excited about engaging with peers across MNS Business Units in a dynamic work environment to share clients, industry intelligence, and support existing projects. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and Licenses Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or similar from an accredited program
• Professional Engineer License (CA Civil)
• Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues
• Valid California Driver’s License 

Minimum Experience Required:

• 10+ years in similar positions with increasing responsibilities
• 7+ years managing projects
• 3+ years of experience leading team members 

Other Required Skills

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others 
• Experienced in business development and marketing with demonstrated success
