Job Description - Teaching Artist Trainee

*THIS IS A PAID TRAINING OPPORTUNITY*

 

Discipline: Dance, Music, Theater, or Visual Arts

Location: Hybrid - On-site, Los Angeles, CA; Virtual and Asynchronous

Schedule: June 16 – 20 and June 23 – 27, 2025

Designation: Part-time, Non-exempt; Temporary

 

Training Overview:

P.S. ARTS’ Arts Integration Intensive is a two-week-long hybrid training designed to provide Teaching Artists and Classroom Teachers with the foundational skills and knowledge to design and implement Arts Integrated lessons that are inclusive and engaging for students. Trainees will develop skills in the topics outlined below as well as learn more about P.S. ARTS.

 

Training Topics will include:

  • Arts Integration
  • Lesson Planning & Curriculum Development
  • CA Visual and Performing Arts Standards (VAPA) Integration;
  • Assessment Strategies
  • Positive classroom management
  • Social Emotional Learning; and
  • Creating an inclusive and equitable community in your classroom.

Please note this description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive list of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of a P.S. ARTS trainee or employee, or included in training. 

 

Per California Education Code § 45122.1, § 45125.1, and § 44237, criminal history restrictions apply. You will not be asked to provide information about a conviction history unless you receive a conditional offer to participate in training.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience teaching and working with school-aged children (5-15)
  • Interest and/or experience in an arts discipline – dance, music, theater, or visual arts
  • Ability to work collaboratively in/out of a school environment and with school communities

Working Conditions:

  • Lift, push, or carry supplies, equipment, instruments, or classroom furniture up-to 40lbs.
  • Bend, twist, reach, stand and/or sit for long periods of time.
  • View LCD screens for long periods of time.
  • Work/teach outdoors.
  • Work with video equipment and a comfort with recording and/or being recorded.

Participation and performance during the Intensive will be evaluated. Participants who successfully complete training will be able to: 

  • Express enthusiasm for developing their teaching artist practice by participating in all sessions, activities, and assignments; and engaging with other participants in discussion.
  • Demonstrate capacity to deliver a P.S. ARTS lesson using the strategies and techniques covered throughout the Intensive, including being open to and incorporating feedback.
  • Describe how P.S. ARTS programs contribute to equity in public schools.

Application Timeline

Application Deadline:  05/16/2025

Phone Screenings will be scheduled on a rolling basis through 05/20/2025

Zoom Interviews will be scheduled between 05/22 – 06/03/25

Participants will be selected by 06/05/2025
