Telephone Counseling Supervising Attorney

PSLS focuses its services on legal problems that impact our clients' ability to meet their basic human needs, including adequate housing, public benefits, education, physical safety, access to healthcare, and similar needs. Our Telephone Counseling Service is staffed by 20+ attorneys and Intake Specialists who qualify applicants for service and provide legal advice by phone. The Telephone Counseling Service is the entry point for the majority of over 20,000 applications for legal help and over 15,000 clients annually.

Responsibilities
Among other duties as assigned, the Supervising Attorney will:

• Primary responsibility is to manage phone queue traffic, online applications, and referrals from community partners.


• Interview and hire intake specialists and/or Telephone Counseling Attorneys with TC Director


• Conduct performance evaluations and set annual goals for intake specialists and Telephone Counseling Attorneys, with the TC Director


• Serve as an initial point of contact for intake and compliance questions (non-legal work)


• Collaborate with TC Director monitoring error reports and providing data


• Collaborate with IT to address technical issues and maintain office equipment


• Supervise the legal work of a subset of all Telephone Counselors


• Assist in long-term planning regarding intake issues


• Exhibit a high level of personal energy, organization, and commitment to the position and the PSLS mission


• Telephone Counseling service staff work remotely, travel to the West Suburban office will be required for training and meetings, approximately twice per year


• Attend Quarterly in-person meetings for all supervisors and managers

Salary and Benefits
The Telephone Counseling Supervising Attorney position is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week. The salary range of this position is $82,500 to $106,344 annually. The starting salary for the successful candidate will be determined based on prior relevant experience. Qualifications

• Currently admitted to the practice of law in the State of Illinois, or admitted in another state and eligible for licensing within three months of the first date of employment with PSLS


• A member in good standing of any state bar for at least two years


• Strong interpersonal skills


• Excellent oral/written communication, research skills, and computer competency


• Organizational and case management skills


• Ability to work effectively as a team member


• Spanish language proficiency is preferred, but not required


• Occasional travel is required, applicant must have a valid driver's license and/or reliable transportation


• The ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to serving disadvantaged populations, and we will give preference to candidates who have knowledge of poverty law and experience providing services to low-income individuals.
