Remote Underwriting Team Lead (Internal Applicants Only)

The Opportunity

As the Underwriting Team Lead, you will assist the Underwriting Manager in managing and directing the daily activities of the underwriting group, including underwriting and pre-approvals, and other loan-specific reviews. To work with other divisions within the company to ensure best practices in underwriting loans in compliance with the company policies, procedures, and guidelines.

You will contribute to the underwriting team by: 

• Assisting the Underwriting Manager with the management of the underwriting department’s personnel, including training, hiring, coaching, mentoring, and setting operations and service goals
• Working closely with the Underwriting Manager to assist with daily team operations
• Participating in the monitoring and enforcement of a clear set of review metrics for the Underwriting team
• Providing recommendations to the Underwriting Manager on process improvement opportunities within the department
• Providing feedback to the Underwriting Manager on productivity, quality, and areas of concern
• Providing training and daily support to Underwriting team members
• Maintaining and updating department training materials and documents
• Providing feedback to the Underwriting Manager on productivity, quality, and areas of concern
• Providing training and daily support to Underwriting team members, including regular training sessions to ensure up-to-date knowledge
• Delegating tasks and setting deadlines for the Underwriting team members
• Reviewing daily, weekly, and monthly productivity, pipelines, and turn times, and distribute accordingly, to maintain clean pipelines and saleable loans
• Serving as a point of escalation for complex and non-routine underwriting cases and decisions
• Reviewing and approving underwriting decisions within designated authority limits
• Participating in the continued development of loan guidelines and ensuring originated loans fully conform to our guidelines and the contracted reps and warranties
• Being the primary and first point of contact to answer questions regarding guidelines and SOPs, and escalate issues to senior management when necessary
• Focusing on continual operational improvement with automation, process mapping, and personnel training
• Minimizing our investors’ and our exposure to losses with sound business and lending practices
• Adhering to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes
• Completing assigned reporting as needed
• Implementing best practices solutions that will result in gains in productivity and quality of work
• Collaborating with departments across the organization to foster a streamlined process and drive quality improvement
• Other projects and duties as assigned based on business needs
• Available Remote Locations: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, NC, OH, SC, TX, UT
• Work Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm CST
• Salary Range: $76,000 – $95,000/annually. (Exempt level position) 

 What We Are Looking For

• Someone with 6 months of Visio Lending work experience, which includes no disciplinary actions within the last 3 months
• Someone who is a motivated self-starter, organized, disciplined, and service-oriented attitude  
• Someone with knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, and Excel
• Someone with attention to detail & accuracy  
• Someone with the ability to handle a pipeline and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment  
• Someone who is proactive and can work independently  
• Someone with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills  

What We Prefer to Find

• Someone with 3 years of relevant experience working as an underwriter or related position
• Someone with 1 year of supervisory experience
• Someone with a Bachelor's degree in a related field
