Western News, Inc. is seeking a full-time reporter at the Verde Valley Newspaper, a weekly newspaper located in Cottonwood, Arizona. We are looking for someone who is interested in being part of our growing editorial team and enjoys being a part of a small community. 

Job responsibilities include reporting and writing stories that cover city and county news, including sporting events, parades, car shows and more. We need someone who is a good writer and has an interest in photography, pagination, social media and staying on top of local issues. 

A journalism degree or reporting experience working at a newspaper is desired. Experience with Adobe Suite products such as Photoshop, InDesign or similar software is also desired. Knowledge of AP style, social media posting and website management is also preferred. Photography skills are a plus, although willingness to learn is good. The position is for a full-time reporter, 37.5 hours/week total. Salary range based on experience.  Stories may also be published in our sister publications, The Daily Courier, Williams Newspaper, Chino Valley Review, Prescott Valley Tribune, Lake Havasu News, the Kingman Miner and more.

Reporters must live within commuting distance to Cottonwood.  The Cottonwood area is a desirable place to live with access to hiking, camping, fishing and other outdoor pursuits.

Requirements

Desired qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, English or related field plus work experience in reporting for a newspaper, website or other publications. Must have a current valid state driver’s license. Must have good communication skills and be able to travel and work flexible hours. Salary: Based on experience.
