Job Description - Reprocessing Technician Lead - Maintenance
The Reprocessing Technician is responsible for maintaining and operating recycling equipment used in the production of recycled plastic material for internal consumption. Equipment includes shredders, pelletizers, float tanks, and other auxiliary systems that contribute to the operation. Equipment preventative maintenance, repairs, and weekly tasks are required to maintain efficiency and performance of the system. Basic daily operation includes shift ownership, reporting, and standard operational requirements for overall system performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform start up and shut down procedures on shredder, pelletizer, and related auxiliary equipment
Lead the shift in proper operation of the system, scrap loading, and maintaining individual pieces of equipment
Provide direction to shift operators and assemblers ensuring material levels are adequate for throughput targets
Reduce production downtime through the use of efficient and effective root cause analysis, demonstrating critical thinking skills and the ability to find information
Navigate equipment controllers on Erema pelletizers, Lindner and Vecoplan shredders, and material separation equipment such as Kason sifters and Herbold float tanks
Perform preventative maintenance following the maintenance program provided by the plant maintenance manager
Perform weekly maintenance to maintain minimum throughputs such as knife rotations, knife replacement, and water tank cleaning
Basic welding skills for knife base installation on shredders
Barrel and screw changes on extrusion equipment
Recognize machine alarm indicators to efficiently track down problem details and accurately identify solutions
Full ability to read pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical schematics, utilizing these tools to locate machine components and implement solutions
Full ability to read mechanical blueprints
Read equipment manuals to diagnose and maintain equipment
Perform efficient repairs on mechanical parts such as bearings, pulleys, filters, valves, gauges, wiring, sensors, and switches
Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic power systems
Maintain work area safety and cleanliness
Operate powered and non-powered tools to complete assignments
Work safely with high and low voltage electricity
Document details of diagnosis, repair, parts, and relevant data for history in MRO computer system
Utilize proper tools, gauges, and meters
Communicate with vendors for troubleshooting, parts, and improvements
Operate forklift, crane, and aerial lifts within the production space
Complete work orders consistent with expectations while continuously striving to improve our position as World-Class Manufacturer
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years experience in Maintenance working with plastic shredders and plastic extruders (pelletizers)
Excellent problem solving skills and use of various tools to locate information
Experience diagnosing fluid systems (hydraulic and air)
Experience working with schematics and blueprints
Education in controls or mechatronics is preferred
Basic welding skills with attention to details
Utilize computers and data systems to compile/analyze information
Clear verbal and written communication required
Attention to detail with adequate sense of urgency to improve utilization
Ability to work independently and demonstrate good judgement
Able to participate in onsite and offsite educational courses as required
