Position Summary:

Catalent Pharma Solutions in Emeryville, CA is seeking a Research Associate II who will be responsible for the conjugation, purification, and HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) analysis of site-specific antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). The Research Associate II reports to the Group Leader, Bioconjugation.

This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday, day shift from 9am-5pm.

This position is based in Emeryville, CA, 94608 in the EmeryStation West campus, at 5959 Horton St., easily accessible by BART / EmeryGoRound, AMTRAK, or car (with private, secured, on-site parking provided).

Catalent Biologics Emeryville, CA site, formerly the startup company Redwood Bioscience, has developed a proprietary approach for site-specific bioconjugation to produce next-generation antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). This technology, termed SMARTag, is based on use of the aldehyde-tag site-specific protein modification technology and Catalent's novel conjugation chemistry and proprietary, stable linkers. SMARTag is a clinical-stage technology that was named Runner Up for Best Platform at the 2022 World ADC Awards in San Diego, CA.

The Catalent Biologics Emeryville site comprises a close-knit team of scientists working cross-functionally with each other to nimbly achieve our goals and milestones. We are a research site, working to develop therapeutic ADC drug candidates for clinical testing. We also continuously strive to improve and expand our technology platform. The team has a focus on publishing papers and filing intellectual property to contribute to the exciting and dynamic field of bioconjugation and drug conjugates.

The Role:
Perform bioconjugation reactions and purify ADCs (Antibody Drug Conjugates) using FPLC (Fast protein liquid chromatography) and diafiltration.
HPLC/chromatographic analysis of ADCs.
Maintain an accurate and up to date lab notebook and protein database.
Proactively communicate results to team.
Support cross-functional research activities.
Assist team as needed by performing other related duties, such as formulation or stability studies.
All other duties as assigned

The Candidate:
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Biology, Chemistry or a related discipline required with 1.5+ years of additional research experience in industry. We would also accept a Master's (M.S.) in Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline with 0+ years of additional research experience.
Prior experience with antibody-drug conjugates, including ADC purification and analysis is a plus. Relevant experience in bioconjugation and conjugate purification using FPLC and diafiltration strongly preferred.
Applicants with experience performing HPLC/chromatographic analysis of conjugates will be favorably considered.
Candidates should have skills that enable problem solving, data management, effective communication, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
The ability to establish and meet production goals that consistently meet quality requirements is essential. Must have a desire and ability to learn new skills to help contribute to our multi-disciplinary teams.
Physical requirements:

Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift up to 10 pounds; ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Regular use of telephone and email. Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and fax machines. Good reasoning ability is important. Able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business.

Pay:
The anticipated starting salary range for this role in Emeryville, CA is $86,000 to $96,000 annually. The final salary offered to a successful candidate may vary, and will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, skillset, education, business needs, etc. Catalent is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
