Research Chemist

Job Summary

Responsible for research and development of new products, improvement of existing products and assuring quality control standards are met. Support Director with technical innovation, product forecasting, and research and development that may influence the direction of the company’s growth. 

Essential Functions

• Support in      planning, organizing and directing research and development programs.
• Assist in      providing technical services to different departments in MISCO.
• Partner with      department Director to develop new products and assist product      introduction and training. Develop      new products and improve existing ones through contact with raw material      suppliers. 
• Evaluate      competitive products and report findings to the      Director.
• Evaluate      current product formulations to ensure that maximum performance is being      achieved and maintained.
• Implement      procedures and controls within the manufacturing process
• Assist with      plant operations concerning batch/process start-up
• Work closely      with the Regulatory Manager to establish and ensure that government      regulations, record-keeping, reporting and insurance industry requirements      are being met.
• Perform QC on      finished products, incoming raw materials and returned goods.

Additional Responsibilities

• Ordering samples from vendors as required
• Submitting products for independent testing as      required
• Handling technical service calls
• Train Batch Makers how to properly manufacture      new formulas and maintain quality in existing formulations. 
• Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
• Maintaining and calibrating lab equipment as      necessary
• Register new chemicals with DHS if necessary
• Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately      assigned or requested

• Strong      knowledge of chemicals and laboratory equipment (i.e. laboratory mixers,      stir/hot plates, analytical balances, laboratory ovens, flashpoint test      apparatus, ph meters, titration equipment, sampling equipment)
• Good      interpersonal skills

Education and Experience

• Bachelor of      Science Degree in Chemical Science or equivalent; or five years experience;      or equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Demands  

• Manual      dexterity to operate computer and laboratory equipment
• Ability to lift      and/or move up to 20 lbs. on occasion
• Ability to      stand and/or sit for an extended period of time
