Research Coordinator - Cssbmb

The grant-funded Research Coordinator serves as a key contributor to the mission of the Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys (CSSBMB), providing leadership in research design, data analysis, and policy development that advances the Council’s statutory charge to improve the conditions affecting Black males across the state of Florida. The position is responsible for coordinating and executing research initiatives, drafting legislative reports, facilitating community-based studies, and producing actionable insights that support the Council’s priorities in education, health, criminal justice, employment, and fatherhood. This is an academic-policy research role embedded within Florida Memorial University and requires a commitment to both scholarly rigor and community relevance.

Essential Functions:

Research Management & Design

• Develop and implement qualitative and quantitative research studies aligned with the Council’s strategic agenda.


• Manage multi-year studies (e.g., the H.E.R.O.es Initiative) and pilot projects addressing disparities impacting Black males.


• Maintain oversight of data collection protocols, ethical compliance, and research integrity in accordance with university and state guidelines.

Policy & Legislative Reporting

• Draft and edit the Council’s annual legislative report, ensuring accuracy, coherence, and timely delivery to the Florida Legislature.


• Analyze local, state, and national data trends affecting Black men and boys, and distill findings into actionable policy recommendations.


• Prepare briefing memos, issue summaries, and talking points for legislative partners and stakeholders.

External Engagement & Collaboration

• Serve as a liaison to academic partners, government agencies, and community organizations conducting relevant research.


• Represent the Council in external research consortiums, task forces, and public forums related to Black male achievement.


• Coordinate and support public engagement activities such as research symposia, forums, and data briefings.

Grant Development & Project Support

• Assist in developing research proposals, funding applications, and progress reports for grants and institutional donors.


• Monitor timelines, deliverables, and reporting for funded research projects.

Administrative Support

• Support the Executive Director in research-related planning, record keeping, and board-level reporting.


• Track relevant legislation, academic publications, and best practices in the field of Black male equity and social policy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Florida’s legislative and educational systems.


• Experience working with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) or minority serving institutions.


• Background in community-engaged research or participatory action research methods.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master’s degree required in Public Policy, Sociology, Education, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field.


• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in research, policy analysis, or program evaluation, preferably with a focus on race, equity, or marginalized populations.


• Demonstrated experience managing or contributing to research projects from design through publication.


• Excellent writing skills with experience producing policy briefs, academic papers, and/or legislative reports.


• Strong data analysis skills (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R, NVivo) and ability to interpret statistical findings for broad audiences.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment.


• Passion for equity, education, and the advancement of Black men and boys.

Salary Range: $53,000 - $60,000
