The base pay scale for this position is $60,000.00 - $91,125.00. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.Position Overview
The Department of Radiology and Imaging at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking a Research Engineer to join its growing technology development team. This is an entry-level engineering position intended for early-career physicists and engineers who want hands-on experience translating quantitative research methods into working software, data pipelines, and prototype tools. Working under the guidance of more senior research engineers, MRI physicists, and radiologists, you will support technology development projects spanning the full range of radiology research, across MRI, CT, ultrasound, and other imaging modalities. The role is designed as a feeder position into more senior research engineering and software development roles within Radiology and other HSS digital technology development initiatives with substantial mentorship and structured growth built in.

Work Environment
Based in the Department of Radiology and Imaging, this position offers close day-to-day collaboration with research software engineers, MRI physicists, radiologists, and the broader HSS Institute for Technology Development team. You will work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced research environment at the intersection of physics, engineering, and medicine, with direct exposure to clinical imaging data and ongoing translational research programs.
How You’ll Make an Impact
As an entry point into translational imaging research, this role offers the opportunity to build foundational engineering skills while directly contributing to active radiology research and technology development programs across modalities. You will receive mentorship from senior engineers, MRI physicists, and radiologists, with a clear path for growth into more senior research engineering and software development roles within the department.
