PURPOSE
To assist, primarily, in encoding, research or extracting metadata from data submitted by data providers, and formatting the data to be compliant with NOAA requirements, and secondarily assist, when necessary, in the development, and testing of software packages developed by the PI.
DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Operations
Percent Effort: 30%
Assist the team to update and maintain security of server-based applications.
Protect operations by keeping confidential information as may be needed.
Part of a team to continuously assess/evaluate operations by conducting systems analysis and recommend changes.
Confer with clients and/or staff to define application requirements.
Provide technical assistance and training to users as needed.
Assist monitor data services developed and maintained by the PI
Functional Area 2: Research
Percent Effort: 50%
Working closely with the PIs, assist in locating data to complete a metadata following guidelines released and published by NOAA
Assist the PI develop automated systems in Python to harvest data and corresponding metadata, from data endpoints
Assist the PI when necessary to develop, test and evaluate user interfaces
Resolve problems by reviewing and analyzing software documentation and production outputs to identify causes and solutions and submit appropriate recommendations.
Functional Area 3: Administrative
Percent Effort: 20%
Assist the PI research materials needed to complete a report or a proposal
Maintain personal networks and participate in organizational activities
Perform other administrative duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math or equivalent physical sciences.
Four (4) years related experience.
Additional education and/or experience may be considered as a substitution for the minimum requirements.
High school diploma/GED and eight (8) years of related experience.
Associate’s degree and six (6) years of related experience
Master's degree and two (2) years of related experience
Basic knowledge in Python programming in Ubuntu OS.
Familiarity with the THREDDS and ERDAP data endpoints.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Math or equivalent physical sciences.
Working knowledge in using data endpoints such as THREDDS, ERDDAP and WAF.
Working knowledge in plotting oceanographic/hydrodynamic models from multi-array NetCDF data.
Working experience in developing interactive user interfaces with ESRI’s Leaflet
Analytical thinking and attention to details
Ability to travel as needed
Solid understanding of GitHub and related open source technologies and source control principles
