Job Description - Research Technician

Overview

The Kim Lab, of the Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute & Princeton Neuroscience Institute, are hiring a postdoctoral scholar and a research technician with backgrounds in in vivo neuroscience and live imaging. Our lab is an award partner on an NIH-funded Brain Initiative project developing and validating next-generation fluorescent sensors for multiplexed imaging in the living brain. We aim to provide rigorous in vivo validation and novel biological application of these sensors in behaving mice using fiber photometry and 2-photon microscopy. This role will work on validating multi-color calcium and neuromodulator sensors, benchmarked against best-in-class tools across different brain regions and behavioral contexts, with opportunities to co-author research manuscripts and be part of a broader systems- and molecular neuroscience tool engineering and application team.  This is a 12 month renewable position.

Responsibilities

Research:

The technician will assist with stereotactic surgeries and viral injections, conduct fiber photometry and 2-photon imaging sessions, run behavioral assays (e.g., reward, aversive stimuli), and perform data collection in support of the postdoctoral scholar and PI. The technician will also maintain mouse colonies, manage lab supplies, and contribute to progress reports for the NIH subaward.

Professional Competence and Activity:

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. The candidate will participate in scientific conferences appropriate to their specific field and will attend seminars to present research results internally and externally. Actively participate in weekly lab meetings, journal club presentations, presentations from outside speakers, and weekly workshops to help develop career goals. Participate in appropriate professional/technical societies or groups and/or review research proposals, journal manuscripts, and publications related to area of expertise.

University and Public Service:

The candidate may mentor undergraduate student assistants in the lab and may participate in the lab’s public outreach activities.

Qualifications

Research Technician Candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, bioengineering, or a related life-science field.

• Prior laboratory or animal-handling experience preferred; familiarity with behavioral paradigms or imaging is a plus but not required.

• Strong quantitative/data-analysis skills are helpful.
