Job Description - Residence Life Manager

Minerva is seeking an experienced residential life professional to join the Student Life team in Buenos Aires (BA). Reporting to the BA City Director, the Residence Life Manager will reside in Minerva’s Residence Hall (fully equipped apartment in a modern building in downtown Buenos Aires, covered by Minerva) and will have overall responsibility for supporting students in the housing where the students live, work and study. Specifically, the Manager is the first point of contact for students and supports the health, safety and welfare of students. Leading community-building programs, the Residence Life Manager brings a passion and wealth of knowledge for connecting students of diverse backgrounds to create a community mutually shaped to meet each member's needs. The role includes supporting Minerva students as they complete a semester of studies, ensuring that they take ownership over building a healthy residential community that learns from each other and supports engagement. 

 Candidate must have work authorization in Argentina. 

As part of the Student Life team at Minerva, the Residence Life Manager’s main responsibilities include:

RESIDENCE HALL OPERATIONS

  • Handling and coordinating operational matters related to the residence acting as the interface to the building management team for matters such as maintenance requests and facility upkeep.
  • City preparation, opening and closing the residence hall, including check-in and check-out duties.
  • Co-coordinating room allocation assignments and all subsequent related issues, including roommate conflicts and room swaps during the semester.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

  • Building community and fostering a sense of belonging for students within our diverse, global student community including planning and providing educational programming for residents.
  • Managing work study students to lead and organize weekly 10:01s and Minerva Talks (key community traditions), in addition to Student Life work study students in other programs offered within the residence.
  • Updating content for students on city resources and information on the My Minerva, Minerva’s internal student-facing website.
  • Facilitating communications to students through established Minerva platforms such as the Community Portal and MyMinerva.
  • Developing and implementing programming and shared resources that support the welfare of students, safety in the city, continued alcohol and substance awareness, financial literacy, healthy eating, and day-to-day city logistics.
  • Connecting students with relevant Minerva resources, such as financial aid, visas, health insurance, etc., as needed.
  • Serving on the Community Care Initiative (CCI), a committee across departments that convenes weekly to discuss students of concern.
  • Clarifying and enforcing policies with regard to student conduct, housing, guest policy, and emergency procedures.
  • Updating relevant student data for monitoring student engagement.

CRISIS MANAGEMENT

  • Acting as first responder to emergency situations, including nights and weekends, with time off duty during the semester.
  • Live in the residence hall (fully equipped private apartment covered by Minerva) and act as a day-to-day resource for students during normal business hours. Hold the emergency phone to respond to and triage unexpected and serious incidents effectively. 
  • Hold the emergency phone on a rotating weekend basis, once every three weekends from Fri - Sun to respond to and triage unexpected and serious incidents effectively during which the on-duty employee cannot leave the rotation city and must remain in the close to residence area to respond to emergencies. Training will be provided.
  • Promoting the health, safety and welfare of students living in the residences. This includes handling emergencies, escorting students to medical appointments
  • Providing translation services where necessary 

SL TEAM MEMBER 

  • Co-coordinating Student Life Team office hours (such as “High Teas” or Student Life Team Breakfasts), localized and instituted with support of the full city Student Life Team.
  • Commitment to visibility during the Monday to Friday working week inside the residence hall.
  • Commitment to occasion evening and weekend work depending on event deliverables. 
  • Completing special projects and tasks as assigned.

SKILL PORTFOLIO

  • In depth local city and culture expertise.
  • Proficiency language skills in English and local language.
  • Skills, experience, and interest in facilitating collaboration within a highly diverse, international community; exceptional awareness of intercultural dynamics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; high capacity for quick communication across multiple channels.
  • Expertise in project management. Ability to define goals, meet urgent deadlines, organize and prioritize projects with follow-through.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with strong student-centered focus and attention to detail.
  • Capacity to learn and use new technology in a very fast-paced environment (Google Suite skills a plus).
  • Must be available to work late nights/weekends (with time off duty during the semester).
  • Ability to respond to and triage unexpected and serious incidents effectively. 
  • Need to work collaboratively as part of a team and interact effectively with colleagues, faculty and students.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with relevant graduate work preferred.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in residential life and/or student services preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred (or will be trained).
  • Strong sense of discretion, confidentiality and tact.
  • Record of sensitivity and respect to diverse cultures, politics, values and forms of communication.
  • High capacity for quick communication across multiple channels and global time zones.

Length of contract: 

The posting will initially be a 10.5 months contract with potential renewal: July 1st 2025- May 7th/15th 2026 (TBD). The selected candidate will live in the Minerva Residence Hall (fully equipped two-room apartment in the city center with amenities), from September 1st 2025- April 30th, 2026.
