Job Description - Residency Coordinator & Technical Assistant-Institute for Electronic Arts (IEA)


The Institute for Electronic Arts (iea) Residency Coordinator and Technical Assistant supports the daily operations, technical capacity, and external profile of (iea). Reporting to the Director, this role ensures the successful delivery of the iea's Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program and public programming.

Each year, the iea hosts approximately 30 visiting artists through short- and long-term residencies, workshops, and public programs.

The Coordinator/Technician serves as a primary point of contact for visiting artists, provides hands-on technical and logistical support in, manages student interns, contributes to archival and digital infrastructure, and supports outreach efforts that elevate the profile of the iea and Alfred University.
The role also includes representing the iea at print and art fairs.

Salary/Rate: $24.48-$25.89

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in visual arts, media arts, arts administration, or related field
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience working in a creative or studio environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Mac/PC platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with digital asset management or archiving
  • Experience supervising or mentoring students
  • Experience working with visiting artists or residency programs
Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with the Director to assess & coordinate needs of artists
  • Supports the scheduling residencies, artist talks, workshops, and events
  • Conduct orientations and campus tours for visiting artists
  • Serve as primary liaison for residents regarding studio use, campus resources
  • Responsible for the transportation of artists to/from Rochester and Buffalo
  • Provide technical & logistical support to artists during their time on campus in the studios and the institute workroom
  • Maintenance, organization, and tracking of iea equipment
  • Support safe operation of tools, materials, and technologies
  • Maintain SDS records and ensure compliance with safety protocols
  • Coordinate troubleshooting and maintenance needs
Student Intern Management
  • Recruit, train, and supervise iea student interns
  • Develop schedules, project assignments, and learning objectives
  • Provide mentorship in documentation, studio practices, and technical skills
  • Serve as consistent point of leadership for student workers
Archives & Digital Infrastucture
  • Assist in maintaining the iea archive (physical and digital)
  • Document residencies, projects, and events in print and time-based media
  • Support uploading and management of large media files for grants and reviews
  • Assist with website updates and digital content
Outreach & Revenue Support
  • Support outreach initiatives that raise the national and international profile of the iea
  • Assist with promotional documentation and digital content
  • Represent the iea at select print and art fairs, including booth preparation and sales
  • Manage print inventory, pricing, and sales, with proceeds supporting iea programming
Collaboration & Service
  • Participate in weekly iea staff meetings and relevant Expanded Media meetings
  • Liaise with other technicians, faculty, and campus partners
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Physcial/Environemental Requirements
  • Ability to navigate stairs, uneven surfaces, and outdoor campus terrain
  • May require the use of PPE including respirator use
  • Ability to drive a university vehicle
