The Student Life Office is seeking motivated and community-focused undergraduate students to serve as Resident Assistants (RAs) for the academic year.
A Resident Assistant (RA), at Keuka College, is an undergraduate student whose responsibility is to build community among residents, supporting diversity and inclusion, enforcing and supporting policies, providing after-hour services, and managing an environment that is conducive to sleep and study while creating opportunities that enhance a resident’s academic success and personal growth and development.
Resident Assistants are expected to serve in this role for the academic year and this position requires RAs to live in their assigned residence hall or apartment in exchange for a discounted room rate and stipend for the academic year.
Essential Responsibilities:
Community Building/Development/Engagement - RAs plan and implement programs to provide opportunities for residents to interact and be exposed to different experiences and personalities to enhance their acclimation to the global perspective. They are expected to have intentional interactions with the community and encourage involvement in all facets of the collegial environment. Availability and interaction are key to being able to create a strong community. They will role model support for the entire campus community by actively participating and attending in many facets of the campus activities.
Policy Enforcement & Safety - RAs serve in an on-call rotation to ensure someone is always available for assistance and support for residents after regular business hours. Duty will require high visibility and documentation. RAs are attentive to resident safety and security and are expected to effectively manage a respectful environment by educating residents on the impact of their behaviors and decisions on themselves and others in the community. This will include wellness checks and life & safety checks as well as room inventories and checking residents into and out of rooms.
Administrative Duties & Departmental Expectations - RAs are required to follow the departmental and building guidelines for staffing needs and maintaining appropriate efficiency in the building of a strong community. This includes all staff meetings, training attendance, desk coverage, reports, programming, break coverage, opening and closing of all buildings, wellness checks and follow-through. RAs will be held to a higher standard of accountability for all policy adherence, ethical and confidentiality considerations. Including but not limited to working all day for move ins and move outs.
RAs are expected to communicate with their supervisors when unable to fulfill any of the above qualifications. This means properly responding to emails, texts, or any other form of communication in a timely manner as specified by their supervisor.
Leadership, Role Modeling & Training - RAs are Keuka College employees and are expected to abide by, enforce, support, and exemplify all the values of the College and adhere to all the policies and procedures. RAs are also expected to attend all training and in-service events scheduled by the Residence Life Office.
