This executive-level role is responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, financial stewardship, and long-term facilities planning of a complex university campus. The RDM acts as the primary liaison between the service organization and university leadership, including senior administrators and C-suite stakeholders, ensuring that campus infrastructure supports academic excellence, sustainability goals, and capital investment strategy.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in higher education or similarly complex institutional environments, with strong leadership across multi-disciplinary facilities operations and unionized workforce settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior on-site executive liaison to university leadership, aligning facilities operations with institutional priorities and long-term campus strategy
  • Lead full Integrated Facilities Management operations, including physical plant, custodial, grounds, environmental health & safety (EH&S), energy management, and construction services
  • Oversee combined operating and capital budgets exceeding $9M annually, ensuring strong financial controls, forecasting accuracy, and contract compliance
  • Develop and execute multi-year capital plans, lifecycle asset strategies, and infrastructure investment recommendations
  • Provide executive oversight of campus operations to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and high-performing facilities
  • Lead capital projects, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades from planning through execution and closeout
  • Manage and develop a large, multi-disciplinary, unionized workforce and site leadership team
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with university executives, faculty, staff, students, and labor representatives
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, safety standards, and regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Director-level (or equivalent senior leadership) role overseeing facilities or IFM operations
  • 10+ years of experience in Integrated Facilities Management, large-scale campus operations, or complex institutional environments strongly preferred
  • Proven experience managing multi-million-dollar operating and capital budgets
  • Demonstrated leadership of multi-disciplinary IFM functions (e.g., physical plant, custodial, grounds, EH&S, energy, construction)
  • Experience managing unionized workforces and multi-site or campus-based operations
  • Executive-level communication and presentation experience with senior leadership or C-suite stakeholders
  • Strong financial, operational, and contract management capabilities

Preferred Experience

  • Direct experience in higher education facilities management (college or university campus environment preferred)
  • Background in large institutional settings such as hospitals, public sector campuses, military bases, or multi-site enterprise facilities
  • Experience leading large-scale capital planning and infrastructure renewal programs
  • Strong understanding of sustainability initiatives and energy management strategies in campus environments
  • Proven track record of organizational leadership, change management, and operational improvement

Why This Role

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape the long-term facilities strategy of a respected higher education institution. The RDM will play a critical role in ensuring campus infrastructure supports academic excellence, operational resilience, and sustainable growth.
