TITLE: Residential & Consumer Lending Underwriter 

DEPARTMENT: Consumer Lending     

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Residential and Consumer Lending Underwriter is responsible for the underwriting, approval, and documentation of residential and consumer loans, as well as the origination of new residential and consumer loans.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Underwrite and approve residential and consumer loans as produced through the banking center network (auto, non-titled equipment, recreational vehicles, deposit secured, stock/bond secured, closed-end home equity, home equity line of credit, construction loans, bridge loans, land loans, unsecured loans) including approving subordination agreements and change in terms requests.   
  • Work with consumers directly at times in originating and closing residential and consumer loan requests. 
  • Complete adverse action documentation in accordance with bank policies & procedures. 
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of regulatory and compliance issues affecting residential and consumer loans, as well as bank policies and procedures.  
  • Monitor and review the maturing loans list by reaching out to staff or borrowers, and if proceeding with renewal, underwriting and/or originating the file with current standards and make recommendations.   
  • Accurately and thoroughly document and report any policy exceptions.  
  • Assist other residential and consumer lending staff in correcting Ticklers, Aged Exceptions, confirming liens are perfected, etc. as needed. 
  • Review products on a regular basis and make recommendations to improve the bank’s strategic goals. 
  • Provide back up for other residential and consumer loan associates during periods of high volume or short staffing. 
  • Comply with all company or regulatory policies, procedures and requirements that are applicable to this position. 
  • Foster and preserve a culture of inclusion. 
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be required to support the company’s mission, vision and values. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in residential and consumer lending or underwriting with demonstrated knowledge of consumer loan products, services, and loan documentation. 
  • Experience in construction or other TRID loans is desirable but not required. 
  • Capability to work and collaborate with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and professional manner. 
  • Experience with using Finastra product suite (Decision Pro, Laser Pro) is desirable, but not required. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of bank’s loan policies and procedures and consumer banking regulations. 
  • Capability to utilize various banking software and Microsoft 365 products, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.  
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to organize and manage a variety of projects and tasks. 
  • Capability to manage sensitive information and uphold confidentiality. 
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
