The Residential Coordinator plays a critical role in providing case management, advocacy, and regulatory oversight for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in host homes, paid family caregiving settings, and supported apartment programs. Coordinators ensure high-quality, person-centered care while meeting compliance standards. Tier 3 roles include added leadership responsibilities and mentorship of other staff.
Core Responsibilities (All Tiers)
Manage caseloads while ensuring compliance with HCPF, CDPHE, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Use strong judgment to proactively plan, problem-solve, and manage crisis situations.
Monitor the quality of services and protection of placed adults.
Advocate for client needs and implement services for optimal care.
Supervise contractors and ensure team compliance with program expectations.
Conduct unannounced home visits to assess compliance and safety.
Monitor and coordinate all medical needs, including appointments, protocols, and medications.
Implement service plans, formal protocols, behavior plans, and health assessments.
Document all services and tracking data within 24 hours.
Coordinate care and attend meetings with case managers, guardians, therapists, and advocates.
Complete file audits and ensure compliance with CO Developmental Disabilities Standards.
Prepare documentation for court hearings, HRC reviews, and team meetings.
Attend clinical supervisions and case reviews.
Provide 24/7 emergency on-call response for adults on caseload.
Backup team members during vacations or absences.
Uphold all Sample Supports policies and act as a mandatory reporter.
Provide direct care support when needed and maintain physical ability to meet demands.
Tier-Specific Duties
Residential Coordinator I (Tier 1)
Focused on high-quality care delivery, regulatory compliance, and direct support.
Supports adults with disabilities and behavioral health needs.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop support plans.
Residential Coordinator II (Tier 2)
Includes all RC I responsibilitiesplus:
Mentors and supports RC I & II team members and PCA staff.
Leads in developing treatment, safety, and behavior plans.
Supports Residential Program Manager with onboarding, shadowing, and training.
Residential Coordinator III (Tier 3)
Includes all RC III (Tier 2) responsibilitiesplus:
Demonstrates advanced leadership, clinical expertise, and strategic decision-making.
Provides elevated support during high-risk or complex client situations.
Leads special projects, audits, and cross-functional collaboration efforts.
May contribute to policy development and internal quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications by Tier
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, or related field (preferred)
1–2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or trauma
Must be 18+ with valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Able to meet physical demands of the role
Must complete and maintain certifications in:
CPR / First Aid
Medication Administration
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
RC II (Tier 2):
All RC II qualifications,plus:
Minimum 1 year of direct residential care experience
Demonstrated ability to mentor, lead, and manage complex caseloads
RC III (Tier 3):
All RC III (Tier 2) qualifications,plus:
Advanced experience (typically 2+ years) in residential and behavioral health settings
Proven leadership in program development, compliance audits, or clinical supervision
Strong skills in crisis intervention, interdisciplinary collaboration, and team development
