Description

Schedule: Sunday 7a-3p, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 3-11pm. Tuesday and Wednesday off

Summary

The Residential Counselor works to assure that quality childcare services are delivered within a residential group care facility, according to agency policy and all applicable state and federal, OMH regulations. This includes participation in the childcare schedule and calendar and ensuring the continuity and quality of service to the residents. The Residential Counselor II is responsible for assisting in the implementation of department goals and programs, youth treatment plans, and daily living and care. Contributes to the Glove House high performance culture by exhibiting our values and providing quality results that keep Glove House as the premier provider of child, family and behavioral health solutions. The Residential Counselor II is directly accountable to the Residential Program Manager

Primary Job Functions

  • Assists in the provision of overall oversight to the residential program, supervision of staff in the care of youth in accordance to all Glove House, state and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs all work tasks in a safe manner.
  • Is guided by organizational values and trauma informed practice in all interactions.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the four dimensions of safety and can identify gaps.
  • Treats all children, families, staff and ancillary providers with respect and courtesy.
  • Demonstrates and models sensitivity to the cultural background of children, families and co-workers.
  • Assists in ensuring that job-related activities are in compliance with Glove House policies and procedures, OMH relevant professional association, ethical standards, accreditation standards, and the law.
  • Requires daily interaction with staff and clients ensuring services are delivered in accordance with the Glove House operating modality (TCI), youth’s treatment plan, calendars and schedules are followed
  • Assists in providing staff and resident support in crisis situations, including post-crisis response.
  • Directly supervises and provides coaching to the youth in care.
  • Completes administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Assists to ensure adequate staff coverage is available and assumes added responsibility for coverage when needed.
  • Ensure, complete and maintain client records and program documentation (self, staff and youth), such as daily activities, treatment plan progress, progress notes and termination summaries, according to Glove House program and regulatory standards.
  • Assures all documentation is completed in a timely fashion i.e. youth notes, myEvolv, etc.
  • Will actively participate as a team member and attend staff meetings
  • Participate in all Glove House strategic planning goals, including risk management and Quality Assurance plans
  • Must maintain timely compliance with all established Glove House standards and provide support documents as necessary (physical/TB, driver license, auto insurance).

  • Is required to safely travel on agency business, as required by job demands. Maintain accurate mileage documentation and submit in required agency timeframes.
  • Consistently attends mandated agency and department meetings and participates on standing agency committees and community committees as assigned.
  • Represents Glove House at state and local forums, developing collaborative relations with other stakeholders in the community and promoting the interests of the agency.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Residential Program Manager.

Job Qualifications

Education, Licenses, Certifications, and Experience

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record in accordance with agency standards.
  • 1-3 years' experience working with children and families in residential care, counseling, group care required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  •  Community resources, TCI principles, Trauma Informed Care Practices, State and Federal regulations
  •  Perform under strong demands in fast-paced, diverse environment
  • Handle confidential information appropriately
  • Perform at a high level of autonomy
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Utilizing computer and standard Microsoft Office, learn new computer programming (ie myEvolv, Paylocity, et al.)
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Work on multiple tasks, while maintaining a high attention to detail, accuracy and quality
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Schedule Expectations

The incumbent will work an alternative standard scheduled week, normally a day or evening shift position, which may include weekends, evenings and holidays. The ability to work flexible hours is required. Travel will be on as needed, to conduct Glove House business-related activities. Incumbent is eligible for flex work week schedule. Generally, duties of this position require 100% time at work (0% is eligible for work from home).

Pay Scale

Base Rate Pay: Associate’s Degree or 3 years minimum experience $20.50

Mid-Range Pay: Bachelor’s Degree or 6+ years of experience $23.50

Top Rate Pay: Bachelors/Associate’s Degree and 10+ years of experience, $26.50 or 15+ years of experience (no degree)

 Employees will receive either equal experience or half experience credit based on the following:

  • Equal Experience: All time within a Community Residence, Residential Treatment Facility, Qualified Residential Treatment Program, or Inpatient Facility.
  • Half Experience: Certified Nurses Assistant, Behavioral Health Tech, Therapy Aid, Direct Support Professional, or similar roles.  

Requirements

High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred

Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record in accordance with agency standards.

1-3 years' experience working with children and families in residential care, counseling, group care required
