Position Summary

As a Residential Direct Support Professional, you’ll play a vital role in assisting clients with daily activities, including medication administration, meal planning, transportation, personal care, and community involvement. You’ll help clients manage their budgets, maintain a safe and clean environment, and achieve their personal goals through Person-Centered Support Plans (PCSPs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Daily Support: Provide day-to-day services in residential settings, including training, meal preparation, shopping, and ensuring client safety.
• Health & Medication Management: Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician under the direction of an RN. Monitor and report changes in health status, medication errors, or concerns to the nurse. Maintain detailed documentation of medication administration.
• Financial Assistance: Assist clients in managing their budgets, documenting financial transactions, and ensuring receipts are accurately maintained.
• Health & Safety: Ensure a safe living environment by maintaining emergency equipment, conducting monthly emergency drills, and reporting any unsafe conditions. Assist in the development of safety plans and maintain a clean and organized residence.
• Hygiene & Personal Care: Support clients with hygiene, including restroom assistance and handwashing. Ensure the site remains clean, addressing accidents when necessary, and performing household tasks such as laundry, mopping, sweeping, and dusting.
• Community Engagement: Facilitate client participation in community activities, educational opportunities, and work sites. Coordinate with the supervisor to ensure community integration is prioritized.
• Client Development: Understand and respond to Person-Centered Support Plans (PCSPs), recommending goals and objectives tailored to client strengths and needs. Document progress and update PCSPs as required.
• Nutritional Support: Assist clients in developing menus aligned with dietary plans, shopping for nutritious foods, and preparing meals safely.
• Transportation: Provide safe transportation for clients, ensuring proper vehicle tie-downs and seatbelts. Assist with loading and unloading clients from agency vehicles.
• Advocacy: Ensure clients’ rights, dignity, and respect are maintained at all times. Represent the organization in a professional, positive manner to clients, parents, guardians, and stakeholders.
• Documentation & Communication: Maintain accurate records, report incidents immediately, and communicate issues or concerns professionally to the supervisor following proper channels.
• Emergency Response: Conduct and document emergency drills, report deficiencies in emergency equipment, and assist in implementing emergency plans.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (no major infractions within the past 36 months).
  • Automobile liability insurance as required by the State of Kansas.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of experience in direct service to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Work Environment

Compensation

Earn $15.25–$16.00 per hour while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
