JOB SUMMARY

Manage a living unit for youth, ensuring the culture is consistent with trauma-sensitive, family-focused, community-based, and best practice principles. Responsible for coaching and developing youth care staff ensuring they are engaged and aligned with Lad Lake policies and procedures. Ensure staffing ratios, the safety of residents, and physical conditions meet state licensing regulations and budget parameters. Case Management responsibilities include scheduling coverage for court hearings, internal and external treatment meetings, report writing, and serving as the primary contact for external team representatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Unit Responsibilities
    1. Responsible for knowing, following, and implementing all DCF-52 licensing regulations in relation to unit staffing, safety, and overall physical conditions of the unit.
    2. Responsible for knowing, following, and meeting all Council on Accreditation (COA) standards
    3. Take responsibility for all budgets pertaining to the unit (personnel costs, recreation, clothing, chore wages, etc.) and routinely monitor and verify that the unit is within budget.
    4. Responsible for working closely with the Unit Therapist, Lead Staff, and Out of Home Care Coordinator to ensure Trauma-Informed Care principles are taught, modeled, and practiced by staff members as a model of behavior management of the unit.
    5. Prepare for and facilitate weekly unit staff meetings. Schedule the training component of the meeting.
    6. Assist in the maintenance of central records as defined to be in compliance with Lad Lake, Inc., licensing, and Counsel on Accreditation (COA) standards.
    7. Be available to oversee and approve the use of confinement to ensure that established guidelines are met.
    8. Provide training for staff as requested by the Out of Home Care Coordinator, Director of Residential Services, and the Human Resources department.
    9. Responsible for meeting with Lead Staff weekly to ensure consistency in expectations and procedures.
    10. Ensure the unit activity schedule is completed weekly and adhered to including recreation, educational, and therapeutic groups.
    11. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
  2. Supervision Responsibilities
    1. Responsible with the Lead Staff and Unit Therapist for forming a cohesive team being consistent with policies, discipline, and recognition.
    2. Maintain a caring atmosphere within the team.
    3. Seek and maintain a positive approach to treatment.
    4. Responsible for the scheduling of the unit staff and for making sure all shifts are covered adequately and covering them if a Youth Care Worker cannot be found in emergencies.
    5. Ensure all Youth Care Workers receive the training required by state licensing and Lad Lake in the required time frame as well as training that enables them to function appropriately on the job which could include but is not limited to day-to-day unit operations, behavior management, and group management training.
    6. Evaluate Youth Care Workers with the assistance of the Lead Staff in accordance with the Youth Care Step Plan presently being used at Lad Lake.
  3. Responsibilities to Residents
    1. Meet with resident groups weekly to discuss unit rules, point system, restitution, rewards, privileges, staff-resident relationship, unit recreation, and school progress.
    2. Attend evaluation conferences and take part in unit intakes and discharge staffing.
    3. Coordinate with the Therapists, the Lead Staff, and the Youth Care Workers’ implementation of the resident’s treatment plan.
    4. Ensure independent living skills are being taught to all residents.
    5. Ensure Workforce Development opportunities are available to eligible residents.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Education/Experience: Must meet one of the following qualifications: A bachelor’s or master’s degree (preferred) in social work, sociology, psychology, or related field, or special education with certification for emotional disturbance or learning disabilities and experience which is specifically related to the client population being served. Also, a minimum of 2 years of supervision experience and be certified as a Professional Level Youth Care Worker through the Child and Youth Care Certification Institute or get certified in the first 6 months of employment. Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Skills: Ability to prioritize work; ability to supervise and manage staff effectively; demonstrated analytical skills; and proficiency in interpersonal relations and communication with direct reports, direct supervisor, colleagues, Lad Lake Senior Leadership, and other individuals inside and outside the agency.
