Job Description - Resource Navigator

Description

Mission:

To guide those aging out of foster care and other vulnerable youth for successful transition to independence through housing, education, employment, and system if care coordination.

Position Objective:

This position is responsible for providing the first introduction to the services that FLITE Center offers to ensure that a youth’s need for services have been assessed. Once a youth’s needs are assessed, this position acts as a liaison between various internal departments, community providers and the youth for a seamless transition. Responsible for connecting, completing, and tracking referrals and that those clients are followed up with. This ensures that no youth is left to navigate the system alone and that youth immediate emergency needs are identified.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage client intake & eligibility screening, collection of youth data, client file creation, and data entry input across multiple database systems for various internal departments within the agency.
  • Assist youth with making the transition to self-sufficiency by referring youth for FLITE Center’s education, employment, housing, health & wellness, emergency needs and other external community services as needed.
  • Identify and arrange for youth to be linked to training and activities to fit program objectives that achieve positive outcomes for youth transitioning into adulthood.
  • Provide personal and emotional support to youth by maintaining ongoing communications about upcoming events, activities, current and additional services, etc.
  • Have ongoing knowledge of and maintain relationships with partner agencies and other community service providers to ensure ongoing knowledge of program offerings, intake/participation requirements and referral processes.
  • Ensure that all the data entry performed is accurate, detailed and done in a timely manner of/for program documentation and audit compliance.
  • Serve as a backup to the Resource Navigator – Emergency Needs staff member in regard to food pantry delivery and distribution. 
  • Collaborate with the executive team to ensure that donations issued are properly recorded.
  • Assist with agency event setup and breakdown as needed
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Interpersonal skills are essential, as working as a team is vital to maintaining the client’s level of service and donor satisfaction.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and prioritize daily tasks according to their importance
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor or member of the leadership team.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to pass a level 2 background check
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a Human Services field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the human services field 
  • Experience working with teens and young adults is a must
  • Willingness to be innovative and creative
  • Knowledge of Broward County’s Social and Human Service System.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and develop positive bonds with youth
  • Flexible schedule required (Nights and weekend hours may be required)
  • Must have the communication and emotional skills to interact constantly, and to prompt, motivate and encourage a diverse group of people, which lacks poor work history/experience.  

Licenses and Other Requirements:

  • High level of Computer skills required i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.
  • High level of organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Maintain valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record & vehicle insurance coverage
  • Ability to occasionally drive U-Haul style moving vehicles to coordinate emergency needs pick-up and deliveries.
  • Access to suitable and reliable vehicle during work hours
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Recognizing, respecting and responding to the unique, culturally defined needs of others served
  • Carry out the mission, vision, and values of FLITE Center at all times.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to maintain a high level of physicality for prolonged periods and working primarily standing
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds - occasionally
  • Reaching with hands and arms - regularly
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching - occasionally
  • Walking – regularly

Language Skills:

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English; both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
