About Us

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work

This position is located at Correction Enterprises Administration in Raleigh, NC. This position is responsible for marketing and recruiting appropriate business /industry partners that will offer ex-offenders a fair opportunity to compete for employment where they qualify. Partnerships are developed by promoting (marketing) the advantages of employing skilled ex-offenders and the position maintains a current database of private sector partners, job skill requirements, and job availability. The position identifies soon to be released inmates who have obtained job skills while in prison through work in Correction Enterprises manufacturing/service plants.

This position provides marketing and public relations to NC business and industries of the technical training Correction Enterprises provides to offenders. Position will be required to make presentations to the Better Business Bureaus, civic clubs, Chamber of Commerce, Association of General Contractors, etc. as well as direct calls to specific businesses. Marketing to business and industries the benefit of employing ex-offenders including information on the work opportunity tax credit and federal bonding program.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Create a list by specific trades and region within the state of employer contacts and of employers who are willing to interview and hire ex-offenders. - - Promote the interviewing and hiring of individual skilled offenders who are preparing for release.
- Coordinate with ESC former Offender Employment Specialists and Job Link job developers to provide a system for referral of re-entering offenders into target populations, and for developing a method of collecting data on referral encounters and job interviews obtained.
- Create a list of offenders who have been trained for at least 6 months through Correction Enterprises programs and create an effective method for connecting the offender and potential employers.
- Operate a state vehicle and engage in occasional overnight travel.

Work is in a prison environment and around offenders.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $41,655 - $72,897

Effective July 1, 2025 candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specifications. The knowledge, skills and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Must demonstrate experience speaking and presenting information to a large audience and responding to impromptu questions.
  • Must demonstrate prior experience with employment placement.
  • Must demonstrate and document previous experience utilizing various Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
  • Must demonstrate prior experience developing and teaching curriculums in a classroom setting to adults.
  • Prefer applicants with experience working with current or former offenders, inmate programs, and inmate assignments.
