Job Summary
Functions as a member of the critical care transport team and is responsible for the care of ill and injured patients transported by MedCenter Air (MCA). Provides patient care which includes respiratory system assessment, stabilization and intervention while promoting safety and efficiency of MCA operations. Performs under the supervision of the Medical Control Physician either by continuous radio contact or direct consultation.

Essential Functions
  • Assess/Documents patient's medical, mental and emotional needs.
  • Administers medications and IV solutions safely and correctly.
  • Uses clinical reasoning, coupled with clinical skills to conduct accurate clinical assessments and perform patient care intervention to ensure optimum patient care, safety and recovery.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in caring for patients on mechanical ventilators which includes; all vent control changes, interpretation of blood gases, monitoring parameters, weaning, intubation and extubation and maintain a 90% intubation success rate (annual average).
  • Demonstrates good working knowledge of Altitude Physiology. Utilizes independent critical thinking skills and judgment when immediate contact with medical control is not available via radio or direct consultation.
  • Drives in accordance with MCA policy as well as state and local laws, must ensure the safety of all passengers, and ensure that seat belts are worn at all times.
  • Assists with PR and Marketing activities as directed by Team Leader.
  • Operates and maintains all transport equipment including transport ventilators, intra-aortic balloon pump, transvenous and transcutaneous pacers, defibrillators, cardiac monitors and IV pumps.
  • Participates in CHS and MCA Performance Improvement activities.
  • Makes rapid appropriate decisions that assure the safety of patients and all others.
  • Recognizes problems and intervenes appropriately, promoting a professional approach to conflict.
Physical Requirements
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Conditions of transport may vary and may include exposure to extreme hot, cold, and wet weather. Work space may be confined and poorly lit. Good physical stamina and endurance are necessary to perform duties. Exposure to patients with infectious diseases and biohazardous materials is possible. Must weigh less than 240 pounds and maintain weight while employed with MedCenter Air. Must adhere to fitness standards in Fit For Duty policy.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Provider by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board and be registered through the National Board for Respiratory Care. Minimum of Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy and BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, BTLS are required through the American Heart Association. Instructor status in one of the previous courses will be required within one year of hire. 3 years clinical experience as RRT required.
