Respiratory Therapist - Night

Job Description:

We are looking to fill 2 night-shift Respiratory Therapist positions in Middlebury, VT. Shifts are 12 hours long, with a rotation of 3 nights one week and 4 nights the next. Weekend and holiday rotations are required. While there is no ICU, we treat a variety of patients, providing a broad scope of care.

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will plan, implement, and perform diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory care regimes for patients. This includes a wide range of procedures aimed at improving patient outcomes in respiratory health.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Operate and manage equipment, including mechanical ventilators
• Internal and external patient transportation (as staffing allows)
• Blood gas drawing, analysis, and interpretation
• Sample blood from invasive cardiovascular lines
• Manage artificial airways
• Administer aerosolized drugs and oxygen therapy
• Provide humidity therapy, CPAP, and bilevel CPAP
• Monitor and analyze pulse oximetry readings
• Perform bedside and diagnostic lab pulmonary function testing
• Conduct incentive spirometry (IS) and chest physiotherapy
• Educate patients and perform assessments
• Communicate effectively with other departments
• Operate and disinfect equipment in accordance with department policy
• Participate in quality control of equipment and department quality assurance programs
• Take part in in-service education programs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Must-Haves:

1. Must obtain State of Vermont Respiratory Therapy Licensure prior to the start date.
2. Associate degree from an AMA-approved Respiratory Care program.
3. Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist or eligibility to take the NBRC written examination within one year of hire.
4. Reliable transportation, as public transport options are limited.

Nice-to-Haves:

1. Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications.
2. At least one year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a hospital setting.
3. Ability to work independently.
