The Retail team of YF is focused on delivering exceptional experiences in our stores both in the park and in surrounding areas and on our ecommerce site. We are seeking a Retail Publications and Wholesale Manager who will play a key role in creating new product vision and growing our retail wholesale business through increasing our self-publications.
Primary Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day wholesale business of our self-published product to retailers around the country.
Negotiate contracts with suppliers and manufacturers to secure advantageous terms, including pricing, delivery schedules, and payment plans.
Build and foster relationships with NPS staff and work in collaboration to identify subject matter for new publications.
Coordinates outside personnel and resources for projects; locates, interviews, and contracts with freelance writers, photographers, artists, designers, videographers, musicians, or other professionals involved in the interpretive product design and development process; solicits bids from, negotiates with, and selects printers and other production agencies; coordinates contracts and payment for services to these providers.
Directs the development of interpretive products, including numerous books and other print publications, as well as other products providing education and information about Yellowstone Forever’s programs and about the cultural and natural history and geography of Yellowstone National Park; outlines concept and proposed format for educational products; conducts meetings with park managers and members of the Yellowstone Forever retail, philanthropy, and education teams to establish product needs and plans and to track progress of developing and revising products; prepares budget for production and development; oversees printing of publications and production of educational products; approves all proofs and final versions.
Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, file maintenance, publishing, graphic design interface software, digital imaging/illustration, and other software programs.
Ability to manage numerous publication projects at the same time, utilizing project management software.
Manage relationships with existing clients, authors, designers, park partners, staff and actively seek out new business opportunities to expand the customer base. Identify and maintain a growing list of other retailers to purchase our list of wholesale products.
Identify opportunities for continued growth in the wholesale industry.
Help define and track metrics to measure success of new products, analyze results, and work with the Retail team and NPS to develop action plans and enhancement recommendations for the product mix.
Identify ideas for products that customers will want in the future, monitor consumer behavior trends, and compare the company’s products to competitor’s products to assess competition in the market.
Develop and implement pricing strategies for wholesale products to maximize profitability while remaining competitive in the market.
Analyze market trends and customer feedback to recommend adjustments to the product offering or market strategies, ensuring the company remains responsive to industry shifts. Travel into Yellowstone, throughout the Greater Yellowstone area and others, as required.
Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Retail, or other designated leadership.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Editing and Publishing, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 2 years in a publication management role driving consumer outcomes.
Minimum of 2 years in a sales position.
Strong ability to communicate ideas and lead teams from conception to implementation.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to find answers to business questions viafirsthand exploration of data and research.
Demonstrated experience in working in a collaborative work environment.
Proficient with the use of technology- POS, WMS, CRM, and publication software.
Ability to represent Yellowstone Forever in a courteous and professional manner.
This position involves driving Yellowstone Forever vehicles; therefore, applicants must hold and maintain a valid US driver’s license and maintain a favorable driving record for insurance purposes.
A satisfactory criminal background check is a condition of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Editing and Publishing, Marketing, Public Relations, or closely related field; supplemented by five (5) years previous experience and/or training that includes national park association management, development of publications, writing/composition, media editing/production, printing/publishing, graphic design, personnel supervision, and personal computer operations or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Compensation:
This is a full-time, exempt position, which will be based in Gardiner, Montana, Hybrid. Travel may be required. Salary is based upon experience.
