Job Description - RF/Analog IC Design Engineer

## \nCompany:\n\nQualcomm Atheros, Inc.\n\n## Job Area:\n\nEngineering Group, Engineering Group \u003e RFIC Design\n\nGeneral Summary:\n\nDefine, design and develop complex radio frequency integrated circuits in complex SoC\u2019s and discrete RFIC\u2019s. Perform radio signal path and circuit topology analysis and detailed transistor-level design of highly-integrated transceivers and associated blocks for wireless applications, 4G, 5G, WLAN, BT and GPS standards using advanced process technologies. Utilize complex analysis, simulation, engineering, science and mathematical principles to compose algorithm structures to solve problems. Assess processing requirements and select devices to meet requirements. Debug and assess performance of algorithms in actual application hardware. \n\nMinimum Qualifications:\n\n\u2022 Bachelor\u0027s degree in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of experience with designing RF/Analog circuits for wireless products (e.g., LNA\u0027s, PLL\u0027s) and 2+ years of ASIC design, verification, or related work experience. \nOR \nMaster\u0027s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 2+ years of ASIC design, verification, or related work experience. \nOR \nPhD in Electrical Engineering or related field. \n \n\u2022 2+ years of academic or professional experience using two or more of the following software: CADENCE, Virtuoso, ADS.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n\u2022 3+ years experience in the transistor level design of RF analog integrated circuits with a Master\u0027s degree in Electrical Engineering.\n\n\u2022 Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with internship or publication.\n\n\u2022 3+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Design of receiver and transmitter RF/Analog circuits, Design of high-performance RF frequency synthesizers, Digital control and signal processing, Product experience from conception, design, and product commercialization, Electro Magnetic simulation/modeling.\n\n\u2022 1+ year of experience working in a large matrixed organization. \n\n\u2022 1+ year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director and above).\n\nPrincipal Duties and Responsibilities: \n\u2022 Determines circuit-level specifications based on system-level requirements with minimal supervision. \n\u2022 Uses technical expertise with tools/applications to develop the architecture and design of one or more blocks based on specifications. \n\u2022 Resolves architecture and design problems by applying sound RFIC engineering practices with minimal supervision. \n\u2022 Runs simulations to determine how circuits perform under various circumstances with minimal supervision. \n\u2022 Independently floor-plan layout; works with layout engineers under minimal guidance to generate the layout of circuits and conduct physical verification on the layout; participate in review of generated layout. \n\u2022 Writes test plans and reviews test results to assess performance and identify any bugs in own work and provides instructions to test engineers for their design block. \n\u2022 Debugs most issues and escalates highly complex issues. \n\u2022 Seeks essential knowledge of industry trends, and advances related to RFICs. \n\u2022 Collaborates with team members to generate new ideas. \n\u2022 Writes clear and detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions to guide users. \n \nLevel of Responsibility: \n\u2022 Working under close supervision. \n\u2022 Taking responsibility for own work and making decisions with limited impact; impact of decisions is readily apparent; errors made typically only impact timeline (i.e., require additional time to correct). \n\u2022 Using verbal and written communication skills to convey basic, routine factual information about day-to-day activities to others who are fully knowledgeable in the subject area. \n\u2022 Working within prescribed budget and resources. \n\u2022 Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions). \n\u2022 Completing some tasks with multiple steps which must be performed in a specific order; directions or manuals can accurately document the steps necessary to perform the task. \n\u2022 Exercising some creativity to troubleshoot technical problems or deal with novel circumstances. \n\u2022 Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or incomplete; intermediate data analysis/interpretation skills may be required.\n\nThe responsibilities of this role do not include: \n\u2022 Providing supervision/guidance to others. \n\u2022 Role in strategic planning.\n\nQualcomm is an equal opportunity employer.
