In absence or collaboration of the Nurse Manager, responsible for direction of patient care in the medical surgical setting. Oversees staff members in the Medical Surgical Unit. Consults with staff, physicians, managers and/or Chief Nursing Officer on nursing processes to ensure patient needs are met. Provides direct and indirect patient care in nursing settings. Able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision and/or guidance. Communicates with physicians, nurses, managers as appropriate about changes in patients’ conditions including diagnostic studies and symptomatology.

Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
Completes annual education requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards related to the Medical Surgical Unit and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Wears identification while on duty.
Attends annual review and performs departmental in-services. Maintains standard of professional society procedures and ethical behavior.
Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, and staff.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Education/Expertise/Skill Requirements:
• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• Current State Registered Nurse Licensure.
• BSN preferred
• BLS, ACLS certification
• Two (2) years’ experience on a Medical Surgical Unit preferred
• Must have excellent attention to detail, customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Successful completion of arrhythmia course.
Work Conditions/Hours:
Normal hours consist of 12 hour shifts between the hours of 0700-1900 or 1900-0700 three days a week including holidays and weekends. Must be able to work nonstandard hours and potentially receive calls at home. Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
