Job Description - RN Clinic Manager



Full-time


Description

The RN Clinic Manager is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who provides vital leadership in a tribal health setting. This role ensures efficient, high-quality, patient-centered care delivery by supervising nursing and support staff, overseeing clinic workflows, and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and tribal policies. The RN Clinic Manager also promotes health equity for tribal members and collaborates closely with administrative and medical leadership to optimize performance and patient satisfaction.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate clinical staff including RNs, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Medical Assistants (MAs), and patient registration.
  • Oversee daily clinical operations, including staffing, scheduling, and workflow.
  • Facilitate staff meetings, promote a positive and collaborative environment, and lead team huddles.
  • Ensure staff adherence to clinical policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Develop culturally appropriate orientation, competency, and training programs.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed (triage, assessment, patient education).
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient care in Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Optimize patient flow to minimize wait times and enhance patient experience.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for complex patient care situations.
  • Collaborate with administrative leadership on resource planning, supply management, and facility coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with Indian Health Service (IHS) guidelines, tribal health board policies, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives, including infection control, patient safety, process improvement, and risk management.
  • Monitor and report clinical quality indicators, conducting chart audits and root cause analysis for clinical issues.
  • Collaborate with leadership on budgeting, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Monitor supply usage and coordinate procurement for cost-efficiency.
  • Analyze clinic performance data and contribute to operational strategy.
  • Work closely with tribal health officials, Elders, and traditional healers to ensure culturally aligned care.
  • Participate in community health initiatives, including health fairs, wellness programs, and public health outreach.
  • Support chronic disease management, maternal-child health, behavioral health integration, and substance use prevention efforts tailored to tribal needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated strong clinical judgment and critical decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in the use of EHR systems and other healthcare technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and compassionately.
  • Proven leadership skills, including staff supervision, mentorship, and team building.
  • Exceptional problem-solving capabilities with a proactive approach to clinical and operational challenges.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex tasks effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, including meticulous attention to detail in record-keeping, scheduling, and inventory management.
  • Demonstrated crisis-management abilities, maintaining composure and effectiveness under pressure.
  • In-depth knowledge of the HIPAA regulations concerning patient confidentiality and the release of health information.
  • Ability to foster a positive, collaborative, and culturally sensitive work environment.
  • Capacity to adapt to evolving healthcare standards and tribal health policies.
  • Commitment to promoting health equity and delivering culturally responsive care to tribal members.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ADN or BSN) from an accredited program.
  • Current and active RN license in the state of Oklahoma.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role (clinic setting experience preferred).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred).
  • Prior experience working in a tribal healthcare setting or with Native American/Alaska Native populations is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of IHS standards and guidelines is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally assist with patient mobility.
  • Manual dexterity to operate medical equipment, computers, and perform patient care tasks.
  • Visual and auditory acuity are sufficient for monitoring patients, reviewing charts, and communicating effectively.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed to perform duties in a clinical setting.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successful completion of applicable tribal drug test.
  • Successful completion of applicable tribal background check.
  • Must pass background investigation for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
  • Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap), Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), and Varicella vaccinations, with proof of previous vaccinations or proof of positive titer.
