Job Description - RN Director of Surgical Services
AlediumHR is representing a well-established healthcare organization seeking a Director of Surgical Services (RN) to lead a critical, high-impact department. This role is based in Missoula, MT.
This is a leadership role for someone who knows surgical operations, understands the demands of perioperative services, and can drive both clinical and operational performance. You'll have full responsibility for the department—staff, budgets, quality, and outcomes.
If you've been leading at the Manager or Director level and are ready for broader ownership, this is a step up worth considering.
What You'll Lead
Overall direction of Surgical Services, including clinical and operational performance
Department staffing, development, and accountability
Budget planning, financial oversight, and resource allocation
Quality, safety, and regulatory compliance
Process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
What You'll Do
Set and execute departmental goals aligned with organizational priorities
Oversee daily operations, ensuring patient care delivery meets quality and safety standards
Lead hiring, training, performance management, and staff development
Manage budgets and ensure departments operate within financial targets
Coordinate internal and external audits
Serve as the point of accountability for service performance and patient outcomes
Build a culture that supports teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
What You Bring
Active (or eligible) Montana RN license
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (required)
5+ years of experience in Surgical Services with leadership at the Manager or Director level
Strong understanding of perioperative operations and patient care workflows
Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive results
Preferred
Advanced degree (MSN, MHA, or MBA)
BLS upon hire; ACLS and PALS within 6 months
Why This Role
This isn't a maintenance role. You'll be expected to lead, make decisions, and improve how the department operates. You'll have visibility with senior leadership and the ability to influence outcomes across surgical services.
What You'll Get
Competitive compensation with relocation support (up to $10K)
Full benefits including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans
PTO, tuition assistance, and career development support
A stable, growing health system with long-term opportunity
Why Missoula
Missoula offers something most markets don't—access to the outdoors, a strong community feel, and a slower pace without sacrificing career growth. If you're looking to get out of the congestion of larger cities, this is a strong move.
