Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. Job Summary:

Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program seeks a professional nurse who has both administrative and clinical responsibilities for the daily operation of the BHCHP clinic at the Southampton Street Shelter and the BHCHP clinic located in the BPHC Transitions Program. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the delivery of patient care within established regulatory guidelines and professional nursing practice standards. This is done through management of human, fiscal, and other resources, professional collaborative relationships. The site operates 7 days a week and the manager may be asked to be available at any point during that time.

Hours:  Full-time; 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Responsibilities

1. 1. Oversees and monitors clinical operations, including direct care and nursing case management activities.
   2. Provide triage and nursing assessment of walk-in-patients as needed.
   3. Responds to emergency medical and BH events, assures staff is competent in emergency response skills and knowledge.
   4. Develop policies and procedures for clinical operations in conjunction with the BHCHP Medical Director.
   5. Provide oversight to the dispensing and distribution of over the counter medication according to standing orders.
   6. Oversees patient medication storage process in clinic.
   7. Participates and provides oversight in care transitions in collaboration with partners.
   8. Develops and sustains the environment that supports excellence in clinical practice through planning and implementing programs that contribute to positive patient outcomes. Holds staff accountable for implementing standards of care, practice, and performance.
   9. Evaluates the adherence to and effectiveness of interdisciplinary clinical standards and programs through the establishment of quality improvement activities.
   10. Serves as a consultant on clinical matters related to area of expertise and participates in direct care as needed.
   11. Provide access and patient care with BHCHP nurse liaisons.

1. Administrative Responsibilities
2. 1. Interviews, hires, supervises, and evaluates staff according to established personnel policies and procedures of BHCHP.
   2. Chairs monthly staff meetings of clinical and support staff.
   3. Provides oversight to management of clinical and staff schedules.
   4. Serves as a resource/mentor to staff regarding professional development, encouraging continuing education, and individual learning opportunities as appropriate.
   5. Is available to weekend staff for consultation regarding administrative matters.
   6. Meets regularly with Boston Public Health Commission administrative staff to ensure successful collaboration between organizations.

Qualifications:

• License to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts required.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible nursing experience preferred.
• Leadership experience with demonstrated management ability preferred.
• Understanding of substance use disorders and mental health issues.
• Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to provide effective leadership for staff and to interact effectively with patients, physicians, shelter partners, colleagues, and other health team members required.
• Computer proficiency including ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information required.

Compensation and Benefits:

• The compensation starts at $88,600.00 annually and increases based on years of experience.
• BHCHP full time employees are eligible for our competitive time off policy of 4 weeks’ vacation, health, dental and vision insurance, 403B retirement savings plan and employer retirement contribution, and pre-tax MBTA pass program with 40% discount. In addition, eligible employees will receive yearly increases, additional compensation of seven thousand five hundred dollars added to your base hiring rate for demonstrated bilingual proficiency and the opportunity to work with local hospitals and community health centers.
