RN, Registered Nurse Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation: PT (24 hours/week)

Position Summary:

Coordinates and provides nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in the inpatient and outpatient cardiopulmonary rehab program and diabetes education program.

What You Will Do:

• Utilizes nursing practice standards and evidence-based practices, obtains patient information/data, assists in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient’s care.


• Communicates observations, changes in patient’s progress, identified problems/concerns to physicians healthcare team members within appropriate time frame as determined by situation.


• Effectively communicates with patients, families, physicians, and team members.


• Accurately assesses patient before, during and after exercise.


• Documents appropriate patient information regarding each exercise session.


• Demonstrates skill and competency related to blood pressure monitoring, EKG monitoring and assessment, oxygen saturation monitoring of patients for appropriate response to exercise.


• Provides quality and effective patient education and documentation.


• Develops and implements patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs.


• Evaluates and documents effectiveness of patient/family teaching.


• Recognizes and identifies critical changes in patient’s status which requires immediate action.


• Assures continuity of care through follow-up with patient and appropriate healthcare providers. Page 2 of 6


• Assesses patient’s educational, rehabilitative, and risk factor modification needs to plan and provide care based on assessed needs and documents.


• Monitors the patient’s clinical course utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.


• Interprets EKG and bases care and/or treatment on EKG findings.


• Monitors patient’s responses of heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure, perceived exertion, pulse oximetry, and other signs and symptoms to exercise intensity and duration and makes adjustments to exercise.


• Identifies patients in the inpatient setting appropriate for referral to the outpatient services and provides for follow-up.


• Contacts patients, after physician referral, for participation in the outpatient program and schedules orientation to program.


• Provides patient education and orientation to the outpatient program and ensures understanding.


• Accurately enters patient charges for services into the computerized billing system.


• Assists with the evaluation of program services and patient education programs.


• Serves as a patient advocate.

Promotes patient safety through:

1. daily defibrillation checks


2. patient instruction on proper use of exercise equipment.


3. correction of patient behaviors or positioning during exercise that increase risk of injury


4. ensure 100% patient compliance with use of equipment safety mechanisms.

What You Will Need:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.


• BLS and ACLS certification.


• Minimum one year of clinical experience with cardiac patients.


• Basic EKG course.
