Job Description

UW Medical Center-Montlake - Neurosciences Institute (NSI) has an outstanding opportunity for a RN Program Coordinator for our Parkinson’s Disease Center of Excellence (job profile: Health Program Operations Specialist). This is a unique nursing role, focused on developing complex care coordination services for patients with Parkinson’s Disease.

  • Day shifts, Monday – Friday


DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The UW Medicine Neurosciences Institute (NSI) provides lifesaving and life-changing care for conditions that affect the brain, spine and nervous system.

The RN Program Coordinator will specifically support our Parkinson’s Disease Center of Excellence, which is nationally recognized by the Parkinson’s Foundation for upholding the highest standards of care for Parkinson’s patients. Our team includes board-certified neurologists, rehabilitation specialists, and movement disorder specialists who are subject matter experts in this field.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides expert nursing care to patients with Parkinson’s Disease
  • Interprets data about the patient’s status pre- and post-procedure
  • Develops patient educational materials
  • Promotes continuity of care through patient care plans, which includes care coordination with inpatient and outpatient areas, the operating room, and community agencies
  • Develops protocols to improve care for acute and urgent patient needs
  • Meets documentation standards and policies
  • Partners with the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) team to streamline the referral and evaluation process, including patient outreach and education prior to visit
  • Coordinates all aspects of the evaluation visit with the referring team, including the need for physical therapy, neuropsychology, and other items prior to surgery
  • Attends monthly Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) conferences and follows up with patients to provide education and recommendations
  • Assists with data extraction for national registries
  • Oversees quality and process improvement initiatives
  • Coordinates resources for research as it pertains to the Parkinson’s Disease Center of Excellence
  • Assists with marketing and outreach for Parkinson’s Disease Center of Excellence, and other defined populations as needed
  • Develops and maintain an on-site Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) support group for Parkinson’s patients


REQUIREMENTS

  • BSN / Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • 3 years of nursing experience, including 2 years in neurology
  • Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
