Available Shifts & Locations:
Day Shift: Full-Time, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Fountain Hill)
Night Shift: Full-Time, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Split between Allentown & Fountain Hill campuses) *Includes a $2.50/hour shift differential. *
All weekend shifts include an additional $1.50/hour weekend differential.
Position Summary:
This is professional nursing work at the second-line supervisory level in a County nursing care facility. In this role, you will supervise first-line professional and technical nursing personnel, as well as resident care staff, across multiple units on your assigned shift. You will play a critical role in clinical oversight, staffing management, risk mitigation, staff development, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure the highest standards of resident care.
Key Responsibilities:
Staffing & Resource Management:
Identify staffing needs, assess staffing patterns, and assign nursing staff to work units.
Determine the need for reassignment due to staff vacancies or absences to ensure safe resident-to-staff ratios.
Assist on clinical units as needed to support staff and maintain care standards.
Clinical Oversight & Risk Management:
Assist with the resident incident and accident prevention program; support interdisciplinary meetings for psychotropic medication review and fall prevention.
Assist in the review, completion, and analysis of incident reports to detect trends and identify potential or actual risk situations.
Communicate reportable incidents to the appropriate administrative departments and regulatory agencies; ensure follow-up corrective measures are implemented.
Conduct routine nursing environmental rounds and make recommendations for corrective actions.
Monitor resident/family satisfaction and address concerns proactively.
Staff Supervision & Leadership:
Provide immediate supervision to assigned Unit Managers/Lead Nurses/Charge Nurses, assisting them in unit management and resolution of employee, resident, or family concerns.
Consult with Unit Managers/Charge Nurses regarding residents' medical and social status, as well as clinical challenges.
Assess overall nursing staff strengths and weaknesses; instruct, correct, advise, and mentor staff, particularly in complex clinical situations.
Evaluate the work performance of Unit Managers/Charge Nurses; assist them with performance evaluations for their direct reports.
Resident Care & Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Conduct daily unit rounds with Unit Managers/Charge Nurses to observe and maintain quality of care.
Evaluate resident conditions; act as a liaison between unit staff and the on-call physician, ensuring new orders are executed promptly.
Monitor and evaluate clinical situations to determine the need for additional services.
Utilize an interdisciplinary approach to resolve challenging resident/family issues and determine appropriate unit replacement of residents.
Collaborate with ancillary departments to meet resident needs and achieve facility goals.
Attend meetings, work on special projects, and chair committees as assigned by the Director of Nursing Services or Assistant Director of Nursing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, standards, and clinical methods commonly employed in long-term care facilities.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding resident care coverage, resident-to-staff ratios, and service provision.
Knowledge of clinical documentation and reporting requirements.
Strong understanding of supervisory principles and practices, with the ability to plan, assign, and review the work of nursing and resident care personnel.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, associates, residents, and their families.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (or equivalent).
Licensure: Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years of professional nursing experience, including at least one (1) year of experience at the first-line supervisory level (e.g., Unit Manager, Charge Nurse).
Alternative Qualifications: Any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
