Position Title: Roads Director
Supervisor: Executive Director
Status: Exempt (Salaried Position)
Position Summary:
Directs the activities of road employees engaged in improving, maintaining and repairing Reservation roads and bridges, as well as other transit ways on or near the Reservation, as well as special projects assigned by tribe.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience:
AA degree and at least five years’ experience in roadway maintenance and construction procedures, and three years’ experience in program administration and supervision, or equivalent combination of education and experience, knowledge of Indian Reservation Roads Program and other Federal Highway Programs available to fund Department operations.
Mathematical and Reasoning
Ability to arrive at correct calculations using standard formulas that apply to road and bridge, and heavy construction, work; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Indian Preference Policy:
Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). Verification must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference. Consideration will be given to non-Indian applicants in the absence of qualified Indian Preference eligible.
