Rough Carpenter:

Rough carpenters are responsible for building and erecting rough wooden structures and building the framework of structures. The rough carpenter focuses on forming the foundations, frames and other basics of building. The rough carpenter uses a variety of hand and power tools to begin the construction of buildings. 

Responsibilities:

• 
  Reads and interprets blueprints and ensures that structures are built correctly on a foundational level. 


• 
  Construct rudimentary elements of a structure such as floors, roofs and walls with the contract documents, shop drawings and project drawings.


• 
  Operates carpentry tools such as drills, hand saws, squares, etc. and shop tools such as table saws, band saws, drill presses, etc.


• 
  Layout, measure and cut materials.


• 
  Nails/screws materials together.


• 
  Builds and installs doors, window frames, subflooring, fixtures and other structure details.


• 
  Install required hardware associated with the rough carpentry.


• 
  Install required sealants and adhesives associated with rough carpentry.


• 
  Maintain and clean equipment and work area.


• 
  Perform related duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

• 
  High school diploma or diploma in a skilled trade (electrician, carpenter etc.) preferred.


• An equivalent combination of education and experience.


• Proven experience as a carpenter. Must have skills using standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the carpentry trade.


• Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trades.


• Must have the ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.


• Must be able to work well with other members of the building crew and other employees and sub-contractors.


• Attention to detail.


• Ability to follow instructions carefully.


• OSHA 10 Certification or equivalent safety training.
