Route Driver

SUMMARY

Operate a 26-foot, 26,000-pound flatbed and/or dock truck safely and efficiently, ensuring excellent customer service across all delivery routes. Assist with daily warehouse activities such as shipping, receiving, and operating forklifts, while upholding company safety standards and promoting a collaborative work environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

•  Operate a flatbed and/or dock truck to transport goods within a 100-mile radius of the home terminal, mainly across the Midwest 5-state area.
• Prepare, receive, and provide documentation for deliveries and pickups, ensuring accurate and timely service.
• Load, secure, unload, and deliver equipment according to customer needs and company policies.
• Maintain radio or telephone contact with the home terminal for delivery instructions or route changes to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Keep travel and equipment logs as per Federal, State, and company regulations.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections, including refueling and ensuring all safety features are operational.
• Assist in shipping, receiving, loading, and unloading of trucks, and perform general warehouse duties.
• Greet and assist customers, addressing orders and inquiries promptly and courteously.
• Ensure the warehouse is organized, clean, accessible, and safe for both customers and employees.
• Serve as backup for route trucks and warehouse operations as needed.
• Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
• Work on-site, M-F.
• Participate in continuous learning and development through training initiatives such as MN Air University, HR programs, tech-support courses, and webinars.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Proficient in operating a 26,000 lb., 26-foot flatbed and/or dock truck safely and efficiently.
• Ability to use navigation tools such as onboard GPS, smartphone apps, and web-based or physical maps.
• Skilled in safely operating a forklift and picker for warehouse duties.
• Capability to plan and execute delivery routes effectively.
• Competent in maintaining basic logs and records.
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
• Open to learning new skills and technologies related to job functions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) 
• Valid Class D license or higher and a good driving record (Required)
• Valid DOT card.
• Participate in and pass all required drug/alcohol tests and physicals, which are mandatory by the DOT (Required)
• One year of Warehouse experience (Preferred)
• One year of Commercial driving experience (Preferred)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged periods sitting in a truck.
• Ability to independently strap product securely on trucks as needed.
• Regularly lift and/or move 100lbs. or more.
• Ability to load and unload packages with and without dollies in various types of weather.
• Regularly walk, lift, climb, bend, crouch, and go up and down stairs.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate – dock-to-dock & hand-to-dock loading and unloading.
