Job Description - Router

Description

 About EMT: Since 1996, we've provided compassionate, safe, and timely transport. Our goal is to transport any passenger - no matter what disabilities or challenges they may face. We take great pride in transporting our passengers to their desired destination. Who We Serve: EMT serves organizations in the St. Louis, Missouri metro and surrounding areas, including neighboring areas in Illinois, as well as Cumberland, Maryland. These organizations include school districts, hospitals, doctor's offices, and more. We also transport individuals and families to and from appointments or simply when they need a ride.
 

Position Summary: 

The Router position is responsible for creating and maintaining routes along with planning pop-up and will-call stops and trips into existing routes and ensuring that drivers and dispatchers are aware of any changes. Acts as support and backup for Dispatchers and performs the full range of those duties as well to cover breaks, absences, or to provide extra assistance during high-volume call times. 

Essential Functions:

  •  Develop and optimize routing plans for passenger transportation services to ensure timely and efficient travel.
  •  Analyze traffic patterns, geographic data, and historical travel information to create effective routes.
  •  Collaborate with dispatch and operations team to implement routing adjustments and updates.
  •  Coordinate with drivers to communicate route plans and address any navigation challenges.
  •  Utilize routing software and GPS technologies to enhance route planning accuracy.
  •  Maintain up-to-date records of route details, schedules, and related documentation.
  •  Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and safety standards in route planning.
  •  Evaluate and report on the performance and efficiency of implemented routes.
  •  Provide input and recommendations for improvements in routing systems and processes.
  • Assist in the training of staff on routing procedures and use of routing software. 

Requirements

  Education:

  •  Highschool diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  •  Minimum one year experience in actively and effectively routing a group of operators/Drivers.
  •  Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.

Abilities:

  • Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness.
  •  Must be able to detect errors in the routes and process the knowledge to correct it.
  •  Strong knowledge of geographical areas of operations as well as transportation and routing software and mapping programs to facilitate efficient routing.  
  •  Must be able to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  •  Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing. 
  •  Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  •  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  •  Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, if necessary.
